  2. 'We're all very proud of them'published at 14:08 British Summer Time 9 July 2021

England's 1966 hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst has compared Gareth Southgate to World Cup-winning manager Sir Alf Ramsey.

Ramsey is the only England manager to lead the side in a major tournament final 55 years ago, with Hurst's treble securing a 4-2 extra-time win against West Germany.

Southgate could emulate him on Sunday, and Hurst is in no doubt of the impact he has had on the team.

"You have got to start with Gareth Southgate because, as in our time Sir Alf Ramsey was instrumental then and deserved a lot of the credit, Gareth does today," he said.

"He is honing them into a team and got them mentally and physically fit. We're all very proud of them. It has been a fantastic amount of games (won) so far."

  4. The Wembley DJ behind 'Sweet Caroline's' successpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 9 July 2021

Don't say we don't bring you the biggest stories here on the BBC Sport live page!

The Wembley DJ credited with making 'Sweet Caroline' the soundtrack to England's run to the Euro 2020 final loves the sense of togetherness it has created after suffering caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Tony Perry had seen the song being used in other sports and by other countries, and was heartened to see both England and Germany fans "going nuts" to it before the last-16 match kicked off on June 29.

The Neil Diamond track will definitely be part of his pre-match playlist for Sunday's final against Italy as he builds the atmosphere in the three hours from doors opening up to kick-off, and it may be played again should England end 55 years of hurt.

"There have been a lot of nice messages from England fans, but also from fans of Germany and Denmark after the 'Sweet Caroline' moment, because they all got involved," Perry told PA .

"That's what I wanted to do - to create this sense of togetherness because we have all suffered the last 18 months. That track did it, it was amazing."

Reply to @ben_footer (10:40): I share your enthusiasm but Italy have not conceded more than one goal in the 32 games Donnarumma has started. They are unbeaten in that time span and have had a tougher route to the final than us. Will be our toughest game. 1-0.

I suspect plenty of Wales fans will be nodding their heads in agreement with Alexsander Ceferin.

Rob Page's side were one of those teams who had to play in Baku and then Rome, before heading to Amsterdam for their last-16 tie against Denmark.

Defender Chris Gunter called the format a "joke" following Wales' elimination.

  7. Ceferin would not repeat pan-European Eurospublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 9 July 2021

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin has told BBC Sport he would not be in favour of a pan-European Championship again.

The format, which saw games hosted at multiple venues across the continent instead one a single host country, was decided before Ceferin's appointment and he admits it has thrown up too many issues for it to be considered again.

"I would not support it anymore. I think it is too challenging and in a way not correct that some teams have to travel more than 10km and others 1km," he said.

"It is not fair to fans, who had to be in Rome one day and in Baku in the next 4.5 hours flight. It is in an interesting idea but hard to implement and I don’t think we will do it again."

Leader of greatest group of male footballers ever assembled. I missed the pen in 96. Sacked from Middlesbrough in 2009. On Sunday we will have our glory, and recapture the lion hearts of 66.

  9. Will the Three Lions go blonde?published at 13:19 British Summer Time 9 July 2021

Phil Foden's bleached-blonde hairstyle drew comparisons with Gazza before the tournament began and it was claimed the rest of the squad would follow suit if England won the tournament.

So, will they keep their word if the Three Lions beat Italy?

"I've told them but I'm feeling they are not going to do it," he said.

"We've still got a tough final to win. If we win I'd like to think they'd stick to their word but we'll see."

  10. 'It would be my proudest moment'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 9 July 2021

Phil Foden says England must stay focused as they prepare for Sunday's final despite the obvious emotion that comes with playing in such a huge game.

"There are going to be so many emotions with the fans. The players have to stay focused and treat it like the first game of the tournament," said the Manchester City midfielder.

"Don't change anything because we've been brilliant in every game. Hopefully we can get it over the line.

"It would be my proudest moment. Nothing can beat winning with your national team."

Chris Trippier and barber Nino are best mates who have found themselves rooting for opposite teams in the Euro 2020 finals.Nino’s family are from Salerno in Italy, so naturally he’ll be supporting the Italian team, but Chris is dad to England full-back Kieran Trippier and his firm allegiances lie with England.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Adrian Chiles, Chris said he thinks the team’s “togetherness” will help them win in the final against Italy.

Nino said he thinks the Italian “old guards” will be able to win against England’s “new kids on the block”, but conceded if England do win, he’d like Kieran to score the winning goal.
