Harry Kane says England have bonded with the public by being "normal lads" who hope to fulfil childhood dreams.

"I think it's the biggest game in my career so far and probably the biggest game of all of our careers so far," he said.

"You dream of these moments as a kid - lifting trophies for your country. And we have that opportunity now.

"These are the opportunities you have to grab with both hands."

Matthew Ansell: New superstition I've created... So far in this competition, every team I've made a bet on winning their match has lost. Not surprisingly, I feel the need to bet on Italy winning. Counter-intuitive but its worked so far!

  6. 'Italy is ready to fight'published at 13:07 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

    Italy v England (20:00 BST)

    Italy

More from Claudio Ranieri speaking to BBC Sport: "I think England will try to push a lot because there are so many fans in Wembley. But Italy will try to play one-two touches to go over their pressing.

"It’s 50-50 because 90 percent of Wembley is pushing its team, but Italy is ready to fight, play football, is ready to try to win. I hope the referee is a very good referee. That is important now.

"Italian players are used to playing in every situation. For them, it will be very good to play against all the stadium."

If England win it, they will be remembered forever.

You're talking about putting yourself among the names of greats - Sir Geoff Hurst, Bobby Moore, Nobby Stiles - all of those guys from 1966.

All of sudden, we've got a wonderful crop of players that we can be proud of who are going to be remembered forever for this tournament if they win it.

The scary thing is they are only in the infancy of their footballing careers. This could be their springboard.

It could put them in a realm of greatness that I don't think any of those players probably yet understand.

They'll be talked about 50 years from now. We all know the 1966 team and some of us were not even born. That's what will happen with these guys.

Roy Hodgson sat behind a desk in Chantilly uttering the words that would become his epitaph as England manager: "I don't really know what I'm doing here."

Hodgson meant he did not understand why he was being forced to attend a press conference the day after he had resigned following the humiliating defeat by Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016 in France.

However, it was a comment that worked on many levels.

It perhaps reflected the scrambled state of mind of a decent man and manager who had presided over possibly England's worst ever performance.

This is what England do to you. They offer hope, despair, optimism, pessimism, elation, misery. Quite often in the space of the same 90 minutes.

If you missed it earlier, Manchester City's Phil Foden did not train on grass as a precaution.

England confirmed the 21-year-old was "sitting out due to a minor knock".

Foden came off the bench in the 2-1 extra-time semi-final win against Denmark on Wednesday.

Gareth Southgate will be asked to provide an update at tonight's press conference, where he will be joined by captain Harry Kane.

  13. 'So many good performances'published at 12:45 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Italy v England (Sunday, 20:00 BST)

    Danny Murphy
    Former England midfielder

There's been so many good performances for England. Raheem Sterling's probably been the best. He's done nothing wrong and it's been a perfect tournament.

Luke Shaw's confidence has grown. Harry Maguire has played better in this tournament. He's been phenomenal, better then I've ever seen him.

The likes of Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice, who are inexperienced really at international level, have just looked comfortable.

  14. 'They help each other'published at 12:42 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

    Italy v England (20:00 BST)

    Italy

More from Claudio Ranieri speaking to BBC Sport on England: "Gareth Southgate has made a fantastic team. It’s like a club team, the atmosphere. They play altogether, they help each other.

"There is quality and the English spirit. In front, with Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Harry Kane, Jack Grealish – there is a lot of quality.

"I know Phil Foden is not the right Foden at the moment but he’s always Foden. Behind, there is Kalvin Philips and Declan Rice who stay there to block everybody. The defence line is very strong: Kyle Walker is very fast, and John Stones and Harry Maguire are very strong. It’s a good team. Well done, Southgate."

  15. 'Saka could be star of the show'published at 12:39 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Italy v England (Sunday, 20:00 BST)

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC Sport

I think in the final, probably one of the surprise packages, is Bukayo Saka.

If he starts - which I think he will, because Leonardo Spinazzola is injured and Emerson Palmieri has come in but he likes to go forward as well - there's going to be a space down the side of Giorgio Chiellini.

Chiellini is getting on and if Saka can get on the ball in that space behind that Emerson leaves then he could be star of the show.

  17. 'It's just part of the job'published at 12:33 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Italy v England (Sunday, 20:00 BST)

    England

England defender Conor Coady on the Lions Den: "I mentioned before about everyone being together here and that includes that staff as well.

"This place is filled with incredible people. I think my role here has been slightly different. We all want the same thing to happen at the end of it though whether you’re playing or you’re not.

"When we come and play for our national team you give everything, that’s just part of the job."

  18. 'I said it could be Italy v England'published at 12:30 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Italy v England (Sunday, 20:00 BST)

    Italy

More from Claudio Ranieri speaking to BBC Sport: "If it’s possible, we'll try to dominate the opponent. If it’s not possible, they defend.

"I think it’s a very, very good match. I said before the Euros started, the final could be Italy and England."

Who have been Italy’s key players?

"I think Jorginho was a key player, but it’s difficult. I think the team is key because if I think of Jorginho, I think about Lorenzo Insigne. If I think about Insigne, I think about Federico Chiesa. If I think Chiesa, I think Leanordo Bonucci, Georgio Chiellini, Gianluigi Donnarumma...”
