It is their first European Championship since 1968 and comes just three years after they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

It's been quite a turnaround by boss Roberto Mancini.

Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha was on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club programme last night and he said he could see the racist abuse coming but that does not mean we should gloss over it.

"The predictability of it doesn't mean that we should just gloss over it because that really really highlights how bad the situation actually is.

"The people who will go out and say what they say, they think it's just because they missed penalties but their views don't come because they missed the penalties, the views were there beforehand.

"But now they think that this is an avenue to be able to go out and say whatever they want because they've been wronged by this person."
