Postecoglou has had to repeatedly use this kind of language to say 'I need players' - although tonight has been stronger than before. Brendan Rodgers went down this road too. It's a very interesting dynamic as he calls the board out in public.

  3. 'We just have to chip away'published at 22:10 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

"I couldn't articulate a number at the moment," replies Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou when he's asked how many new players he would like.

"We just have to chip away at it. Get one in, get two in, and keep going until we have the squad I think we need.

"I knew it was a challenge. I knew it wouldn't be a case of just tinkering but that's why I saw it as an opportunity for me."

  4. 'I need to keep reinforcing my views'published at 22:06 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou does not think an early exit from the Champions League will make luring new players to Glasgow any trickier than it has been.

"I think I've been pretty consistent in saying we need new players and the club is working hard to get those players in," he explains.

"Our supporters just want to see us bring in the reinforcements we need and I need to keep reinforcing my views on it as strongly as I possibly can.

"The targets we had yesterday will be the same tomorrow.

"I've made my position on exits clear. Anyone who doesn't want to be here is welcome to go. I'm not going to waste too much time thinking about that."

  5. 'Bain provides a strong voice'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou explains his decision to replace goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas with Scott Bain.

"Scott's been training well," he says.

"With such a young back four, they needed a strong voice behind them. Scott provides that."

  8. 'I take responsibility, I don't blame people'published at 21:51 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

More from Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou as he fields some pretty bruising questions: "Catastrophic means the end," he says. "It's far from the end.

"It's been suggested that the club is falling apart. That's not the case. I can't ask more of the players.

    "I take responsibility, I don't blame people."

  9. Celtic players 'gave their maximum'published at 21:49 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Midtjylland v Celtic (1-1, 18:45)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou insists his players "gave their maximum" during a disappointing Champions League qualifying exit to Midtjylland.

"We just got tired in the end," said Postecoglou. "They scored and got through it. I thought my players gave their maximum.

"It's the beginning of what we're trying to embark on. We controlled the game until they scored.

"Then the momentum changed. If it was 2-0 to us then the game would have been different."

What about Odsonne Edouard's contribution? He's the best striker Celtic have by miles but he wasn't particularly switched on this evening - or in last week's game. He had one opportunity but skewed an early volley high and wide.

The 23-year-old has one year of his deal to run and is being linked with different clubs almost daily.

Brighton are the latest side credited with a keen interest, while former club PSG are due a large slice of any transfer fee.

  13. Games coming thick and fast for Celticpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

Celtic do not have any time to feel sorry for themselves, with their Premiership opener at Tynecastle on Saturday evening. Hearts will be right up for that one as they return to the big time.

Then they go to the Czech Republic to take on Jablonec next Thursday in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

  16. Sore turning point for Celticpublished at 21:24 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

James Forrest was only just on the park when he slotted a great chance narrowly wide. Around 40 seconds later, Midtjylland levelled thanks to some sloppy marking.

A huge moment in the game.

  17. Celtic run out of puff and ideas...published at 21:20 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    FT: Midtjylland 2-1 Celtic (3-2)

It was all looking so good for Celtic when Callum McGregor smacked in a glorious volley to put them in front.

But once Midtjylland found an equaliser, the air just seemed to leave the visitors' balloon and they couldn't find any kind of response to falling behind.
