  5. Postpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Right, the team news is in for tonight's 10 games. There have been changes. Many, many changes.

Let's start with the news from Etihad...

  6. Where are the shocks?published at 18:52 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

What we all really love, though, is a shock. A giant killing. Some plucky little side from the middle of nowhere toppling one of the big, arrogant boys.

Where are they potentially coming from tonight?

Does Fulham possibly beating Leeds count? Maybe. Could Wycombe take down the holders at the Etihad? Hmm. QPR v Everton and Sheffield United v Southampton are definitely worth keeping an eye on. And then there's Rochdale at Burnley in a feisty Lancashire derby.

  7. Postpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

The presence of so many squad players often lends itself to some pretty gripping, entertaining games.

Premier League clubs are there to be got at, there is occasionally less structure or honed cohesion in sides and now and again a young academy maverick shines.

What I'm saying is, this might be fun!

  8. Time to step up...published at 18:42 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Right then, are you ready for some reserve team football?

I jest... well, half-jest. I think we all know the score now with regards to the Carabao Cup. It is sadly somewhat the whipping boy of English domestic cup competitions, in which teams opt to field some of those in need of minutes or with something to prove.

English football is, as many managers regularly inform us, demanding on players. They need a break somewhere. And we're not just talking Premier League either. We're now seeing League One and Two clubs resting players to keep them fresh for league games.

    But there's good news...
