  2. 'We lacked composure after scoring'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "A strange game. We started really well, we were dominant and we scored the goal. After that we lacked composure to manage the game. We didn't have a sequence of passes and then the team was stretched.

"After half time we changed a couple of things and we got better but we gave the ball away in areas you can't and after that we gave a mountain to climb.

"Credit they didn't give up, we had some big chances and then got the goal in the end.

"My perception was we were trying to protect something instead of going for the second one. We were not comfortable."

On Lacazette: "We are with him every day and that is what he does, he fights for every ball and he transmitted some belief and energy to the crowd when he came on.

"The positive I know the group is never going to give up. The team kept trying and in the end we got the reward."

  3. 'I feel sorry for them'published at 22:40 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira to BBC Sport: "It was really tough, I was really disappointed to concede at the end because the players worked really hard and they deserved those three points. I feel sorry for them today.

"I liked the personality and character we showed. We managed to get into the game. In the seond half we had desire to compete and won the ball quite high.

"This is the part of the game we wanted to improve, being aggressive. lt's part of the DNA of Crystal Palace. We knew Arsenal like to play balls in between and if the timing was good we'd create chances.

"Christian Benteke has been working really hard, he knows how to score goals it's just been a difficult period for him so I'm really happy for him.

"I'm a little frustrated because we play at times really good football but we didn't turn those into wins. We have to turn those performances into a win.

On his reception from the Arsenal fans: "I don't want to say I expected it but when you spend nine years at a club like that and I was part of a generation who did well for the club, it meant a lot to me.

On Wilfried Zaha's illness: "The plan is for him to do some light training tomorrow and he will be joining the team on Wednesday morning."

  4. 'The most positive thing is we kept going'published at 22:35 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to BBC Sport: "We started the game very well, very dominant, really sharp. A lot of moments and threat.

"After the goal we didn't manage the game well enough. We didn't have composure or control. The game was stretched. You have uncertainty, you have to defend deep.

"We started better in the second half. We had more control then we gave the ball away two times for the two goals.

"The subs were terrific. The team never gave up. We had chances to score more.

"We took the goal the wrong way. They were having problems and we didn't manage that well enough.

"It [the dip in performance] was for a long period which is worrying. We gave cheap goals away.

"In first half we lost the ball in difficult areas with simple passes.

"Alexandre Lacazette came on and made two or three positive actions. He lifted the players. You had the sense we would score.

"The most positive thing is we kept going. They kept believing until the end. That's how we managed to get a point.

"I am disappointed with the result. We threw it away. When you score late in a game you always have to take the point. Much better than losing."

On James McArthur's foul on Bukayo Saka: "It's a clear red card. No intention to play the ball. I don't know how with VAR he hasn't been sent off."

  5. 'These games will make us stronger'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Crystal Palace

More from Vieira: "It is just about the character of the players we have. They are really open to new ideas and the way we are working every day allowed me to be really demanding of them. Today again they showed a great spirit but we need to turn these around to wins.

"I am pleased with the process we have in place but we want to do more because in the end we have to win games.

"I have always been calm even in the tunnel, it is just other people stressing me! The previous manager I had was really calm and that is the message you want to give to the players. Inside I am boiling and excited about every moment of the game but this is who I am.

"The players were really frustrated because we threw away two points. To concede a goal like that is really difficult to accept.

"These games will make us stronger. A performance like that allowed me to be more demanding of the players and go back to the field and improve ourselves again."

  6. 'I am frustrated for them'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was so close but we have been saying that a little bit too often. We have to learn from the games we played previously. I am really disappointed because the way the team came back in the second half, they deserved to win the game.

"I am frustrated for them, they were brave and showed character and to concede a goal like that I am disappointed for my players.

"We conceded those goals on set pieces on the second phases and we need to work on that. We have to put our sleeves up and put our bodies on the line. We were really unlucky today, it is the way it is but I believe there is more to come from the team to challenge even better."

  7. 'It feels worse than a defeat'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 18 October 2021

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Conor Gallagher speaking to Sky Sports: "It's horrible, honestly, it's so horrible.

"To come back from 1-0 down at Arsenal is great isn't it? To hold on until the last 30 seconds is just horrible. We're gutted.

"It feels worse than a defeat - if it's possible. Nothing's worse than thinking you've got three points and to have it taken away from you. We need to learn from little mistakes.

"The boys were brilliant. You can't take the performance away from us. The whole team were class. There are a lot of positives but it doesn't mean a lot when you don't have the three points.

"Half-time we were confident and thought we could still win this.

"Hopefully we can start turning these draws into wins. You've got to take it on the chin and move on."

    Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette, speaking to Sky Sports: "At the end we could draw. The main thing was to avoid the loss. We wanted to win, we started well but then stopped playing. I think this is something we have to work on in the future.

"It was my first goal of the season. I know I need to work hard to get some minutes and I try to enjoy as much as I can when I am on the pitch.

"He [Mikel Arteta] told us when we play well the fans are with us. This is what I tried to bring. When the fans are with us it gives us players energy. We need to give them what they want.

"We showed we have character. Even when we are down we don't give up."

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal have got away with one. Have Arsenal turned a corner? Not on this evidence. Palace will feel really hard done by.

Palace players will be thinking "how on earth have we drawn this game?" but they can take a lot from this season so far. It's been a great start from Vieira. Eight games in they've been tremendous.
