    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Oh woof. What a goal this would have been. Christian Benteke throws himself acrobatically at a Conor Gallagher cross and his volley flies just wide. Proper scissor-kick I'd say about 10 yards out.

    Leeds 0-1 Wolves

Leeds come out of the traps, not quite as quick as a greyhound chasing the lure, but at a decent pace.

Raphinha's eyes light up when the ball breaks to him in a central position on the edge of the Wolves area, only to drag a left-foot shot wide.

What a start to the second half for Southampton!

Terrible defending by Burnley as James Tarkowski gives the ball away carelessly and Ibrahima Diallo quickly sends Armando Broja through. He gets to the edge of the box before arrowing a cinical strike into the far corner.

After going behind, Southampton have turned things around.

  4. 'Watford's mentality is important'published at 16:07 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Everton 1-1 Watford

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Watford's mentality had to be important and correct. To concede so early, everyone could have looked round at each other and though 'oh, here we go again', but they didn't.

  5. Postpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

The last shot in this game was the 26th minute. Early free-kick for Newcastle as Marc Guehi catches Allan Saint-Maximin.

Ryan Fraser crosses but it's headed away by Christian Benteke.

Adren Ali: Prior to this season I had Southampton as a good bet to go down. Redmond, Walcott, these are not players good enough to stay up. However since then they have added Broja, Livramento & Elyounnoussi to their starting 11. These players will make all the difference.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Leeds 0-1 Wolves

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has decided action is needed. Wales forward Tyler Roberts is the man summoned from the bench, with winger Jack Harrison being the one hooked.

Blackburn Lad: Lots of choice for Big Sam to stage a comeback with Newcastle or Cardiff City needing managers...and after today's showing then maybe Norwich City will give him a call.

Duncan: So Mick McCarthy is now available…come on Newcastle do the right thing and get him signed up, he’ll get you promoted next year.

McCarthy has left Cardiff in the last few minutes

It's almost as if some people assumed that because Newcastle changed the manager they'd all of a sudden start winning games. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. This group of players is just as much of the problem as Bruce was.

  12. 'We have to work to keep the momentum going'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “You don’t find any manager in the world who gives you a statement on favourites or the title race in October. We are where we are and we know what we want to do.

“If you want to be a contender for the top places you have to show resilience. It doesn’t help if you talk about it today. We have to keep working hard to keep the momentum going.

“If things look easy there is a lot of work behind it. I like the look of things at the moment. The intensity is very good and we want to keep going.”

  13. 'This is end to end'published at 15:58 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    HT: Everton 1-1 Watford

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has been a superb game; end to end, all action and competitive. The quality in the final third isn't there, but ask me to name a winner now, I probably couldn't.

Livramento has been a revelation this season, solid in attack/defence & a fantasy cult hero - what's not to love?

Every time I see Southampton (which admittedly has been a handful of times this season), Valentino Livramento has been the best player on the pitch. Just 18, looking a great signing for the Saints.

Why let a manager go if you haven't got an immediate replacement? Newcastle are all over the place.

All square at the break with not too much between the two sides.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Leeds 0-1 Wolves

Penalty shout? Leeds fans want it. Not for me, Clive.

Wolves full-back Rayan Ait Nouri sticks toe and leather before Jamie Shackleton tumbles over.

That's that as the home fans boo the ref off the pitch. Some could justify that at their team.

Not a lot in it and Wolves not really had to do much to lead.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

Applause from the home fans as the whistle goes for half time.

Southampton responded well after going behind early.
