    Everton 0-0 Watford

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The way Benítez has dealt with things at Everton has been impressive. The players are fighting for him and the shirt. Evertonians are saying they've not seen that for a number of years.

I Predict A Riot booms out of the Elland Road speakers.

The people could be getting lairy, and town quite scary, if Leeds slip into the bottom three today.

A Wolves win, coupled with one for either Burnley or Newcastle, will see that happen this afternoon.

  4. 'I will only enjoy this if we get a positive result'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

Crystal Palace v Newcastle Utd (15:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's caretaker boss Graeme Jones speaking to the BBC on managing his boyhood club: "I've got a job to do and I don't want to come out of that. I would love to stand there and say 'let's enjoy this and take it all in', but I will only enjoy this if we are competitive and get a win or a positive result. I won't deviate from that plan."

If we're gonna continue the league in this manner I'm giving up on it. The difference between the top 6 and everyone else is too big, financially it's ridiculous.

A few bobble hats out in West Yorkshire. Not that cold is it?

The home fans are warming themselves up with a hearty rendition of 'We are Leeds!', to which the away fans respond with a chant of their own.

Empty seats at Elland Road these days are rarer than Manchester United shirts on Briggate.

  7. 'It's not season defining'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Daniel Farke, speaking to BT Sport: “We said before the game that it was the toughest task in world football. We wanted to be at the top of our game, but we were not. We were too slow with the ball, against the ball and with our decision-making. That’s why we lost the game.

“We were not sharp enough with the runs in behind - this was a topic during the week. The players are disappointed, but there’s no need to punish them even more. We had decisions on the pitch that were brutal. We were a bit over-motivated that we conceded the red card and three more [late] goals.

“I told the players whatever happens, we use the next two days to forget about this because it’s not season defining. One of the season-defining games comes in our next home game.

“It’s not good for our confidence to concede seven goals. We’ll be disappointed for the next two days. After that we keep going.”

  10. 'I was fortunate today'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It’s a special day, not just for me but because of the scoreline and the way we played. These early kick-offs can be very difficult at times. There’s not much time to recover, but the performance we put in and with me getting a hat-trick – it was a special day.

“A lot of the boys have scored this season. I said in midweek it was about time to get on the scoresheet, and today was obviously the day. I was fortunate today.

“I just got told [Gareth Southgate] was watching. It’s brilliant for me and obviously to get my first goals of the season and an assist, it was a good day.”

“The most important thing for us is to focus on every game. We’ve got massive games coming up and if we go from game to game, we can keep racking up points. Our goal is to be up there and we want to be a big team.”

On the retaken penalty: “He obviously guessed the right way, but luck was on my side today that I got to take it again. I didn’t think he was going to go down the middle [for the second one].”

    FT: Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Final Score

No complaints for the red card. When you are getting beaten, you have to try to manage your emotions. It just compounded the misery for Daniel Farke.

They are now missing a player for the next game. You have to look ahead. No-one expected them to get anything today.

  13. PEAK6 and Wolvespublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Leeds v Wolves (15:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

An interesting announcement from Molineux went somewhat under the radar earlier this week.

Wolves confirmed that US finance and technology firm PEAK6 Investments had acquired a minority share in Fosun Sports, the Premier League club's ultimate owners.

It does seem that rather than get involved in first-team affairs, which remain under the guidance of chairman Jeff Shi and manager Bruno Lage, PEAK6 are looking at Wolves' other interests, notably E-sports, Wolves Records and Chinese fashion brand WWFC.

These are very much seen as commercial growth areas.

However, on the back of the arguments at Premier League level this week over Newcastle and what sponsorships they will be allowed to have, this could also be viewed as Fosun - in addition to bringing in extra income - putting a bit of distance between the Chinese parent group and the football club.

It does seem sponsorship deals will be scrutinised to a much greater degree than they have been before.

  14. 'We didn't want to stop'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BT Sport: “We played a good performance. We were sharp and put in a lot of effort. We pressed high and won many balls, we played with a high rhythm and created a lot of chances. To score seven you also need a bit of luck and momentum, but it was a good effort.

“This is just one game, the next one follows on Tuesday evening [in the EFL Cup]. The players deserve all the credit, but it’s also only one game.

“The focus was that we keep the same intensity and we create opportunities. This is what we demanded. You need luck to score and you need the moment. That’s why I’m happy because the intensity was high and the rhythm was high.

“I feel very sorry [for Daniel Farke] because we did not stop and we didn’t want to stop. We said at half-time we wanted to keep going. It feels horrible for Daniel today – I hope he keeps his head up and puts his team back on track. He deserves it and he’s a good guy.”

On Mason Mount: “No matter how satisfied the coach is, the offensive guys need goals to be fully happy. He waited too long, so it was good that he got some goals today.

“I think it’s a process. We’re still in between international breaks. I think it’s normal [for players to be tired]. I agree today that Mason looked fresh and it was good to put him on the pitch. We have to be careful with these players who play important roles in their national teams in important competitions.”

  15. 'It'll be interesting to see how Jones gets on'published at 14:47 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

Crystal Palace v Newcastle (15:00 BST)

    Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I hope Newcastle don't fall into the Robinho realm like Manchester City with their signings. I don't think they are the players they need. It'll be interesting to see how Graeme Jones gets on in the next couple of weeks from a tactical and man management standpoint.

  16. 'Will Newcastle be winning trophies in four years? I don't think they will'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
BBC football expert on Football Focus

The first thing is, you have got to keep them in the division. If it's a foreign manager, have they managed in the Premier League? That's the first thing they have got to get to grips with.

I think they will be fine, I think there are worse teams in the division and they will get a lift.

But that whole thing about will they be winning trophies within four or five years - I don't think they will. When Manchester City were in this position and their money came in, they had a much better team and it took them four or five years.

With Newcastle I think it will be longer. A lot of players don't want to go to the north east. In terms of recruitment it is going to be interesting. How will you get all those players to move up north?

Attracting the right kind of players is going to be difficult.

  17. Brutal Bielsapublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Leeds v Wolves (15:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa cannot be accused of sugar-coating his side's relatively disappointing start to the season.

This is from his programme notes for today's game.

"Last weekend, against Southampton, defeat was a fair result," he said.

"We didn't play well in any moment in the game. It was very difficult to recover the ball, it was difficult to provoke our opponent to make mistakes and it was difficult for us to stop them getting from defence to attack."

Not much room for positives in that.

    FT: Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Jermaine Beckford
    Ex-Everton striker on Final Score

Mason Mount was excellent. Absolutely amazing. Every time he picked the ball up he was confident, looking for the wide runners and thread the ball through. A brilliant all-round performance.

He gave an interview earlier saying he needed to get amongst the goals more often. This is what Chelsea fans want to see week in, week out. He has untold amount of talent and ability. We want to see more of that.

  20. 'A massive moment for me'published at 14:40 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Chelsea 7-0 Norwich

    Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, speaking to BT Sport: “Before the game I put pressure on myself to get on the scoresheet, then three came around in the same game. It’s obviously a massive moment for me. I’ll remember this one for a long time.

“I was always getting in positions to score, but I just wasn’t putting it in the back of the net. I thought the last one might be offside. It was my luck today, but it’s also about the team. We spoke before about being at it from the beginning, we did that today.

“Players came in in the absence of other players. We were on it the entire game but we never dropped our standards and kept going.

“I always want to play every game. Sometimes you’ve got to take a backwards step, but in the last couple of games I’ve felt at it and ready to play.

“It’s a big moment for me to score three at home at Stamford Bridge.”
