  3. On to next Thursday...published at 22:05 British Summer Time 19 August 2021

All of the Scottish teams are back in action again next Thursday and all of the play-off ties are in the balance.

Celtic are best placed as they take a 2-0 lead to AZ Alkmaar.

Rangers will fancy their chances of another Europa League group stage adventure even if it wasn't plain sailing tonight.

Conference League representatives St Johnstone have given themselves a great chance of progress with an impressive draw away to LASK in Austria and Aberdeen are just one goal down going into their home leg.

Wouldn't it be great if all four could be involved in group games up until Christmas?

Well, it's not quite what most fans would have expected as they filed into Ibrox earlier this evening, but at least Rangers managed to eke out a lead after playing for so long with 10 men.

John Lundstram picked up a second booking on the 43rd minute and Alfredo Morelos delivered the vital goal.

  14. 'Pitch was a disgrace', fumes Glasspublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 19 August 2021

    FT: Qarabag 1-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass is not a happy man.

Not at his side's performance tonight, but at the state of Qarabag's pitch in Baku, which appears to have played a part in a potentially worrying injury for centre-back Andrew Considine.

“I said before the game I didn’t want to use the pitch as an excuse," Glass told the club's website.

"I deliberately didn’t want to talk about it at that point and I didn’t want to detract from the fact that Qarabag are a good team.

“But we’ve seen the reality of it there, it was a disgrace, and it probably resulted in Andy getting injured which is a terrible thing to see happen at this level.

"The game shouldn’t be played on a pitch like that, both teams deserve better. It was a game between two good teams, with good footballers on both sides, and they weren’t given the surface to show their best."

  18. Davidson revels in 'unbelievable' St Johnstone drawpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 19 August 2021

    FT: LASK 1-1 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson tells BBC Sportsound that the McDiarmid Park club's draw with LASK in Austria has given them a real chance to make the Europa Conference League group stages.

"It's excellent," said Davidson. "I thought the boys performed unbelievably well.

"I am bit disappointed with the chance we miss before their goal but overall it's a great result. LASK are a good European team.

"All credit to the players. Some of the results LASK have had in the last couple of years have been tremendous.

"But we had a go and went toe-to-toe. It's a great result and the players are a little bit disappointed. But what a result, it's unbelievable.

"We give ourselves a chance. It's a learning curve and another cup final for us next Thursday."
