  6. Ronaldo a 'short-term' signing - Klopppublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp feels any club who signs Cristiano Ronaldo, 36, will be doing so for short-term gain.

Klopp said: "It's not about me to judge that, it's just if other clubs can do things like this. It's obviously not a business for the future, say in three or four years they have the benefit of that.

"It's for now and immediately, if that happens. That's how some clubs are obviously working and that's absolutely fine. But there must be different ways."

Steve Mason: Man City decided against signing him in much the same way I decided me and Scarlett Johansson weren't going to date.

  8. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

CR7, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane - fair to say Manchester United will have smashed this summer's transfer window if they can get Cristiano Ronaldo over the line.

Cristiano Ronaldo spent six seasons at Old Trafford from 2003-2009 where he won eight major trophies plus the Ballon d'Or as the world's best player in 2008 before sealing a then world record 80m move to Real Madrid.

At United, he scored 118 goals and won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2007-08 season, the year he helped the Old Trafford club claim their last Champions League title.

Crytic: As a Man City fan, I would’ve loved to see him join us, but I think Ronaldo going back to Man Utd is genuinely one of the greatest transfers - the club that made him a household name, a great move for all involved. And yeah, not all City fans are bitter, it’s a game at the end of the day.

  15. Will Fernandes tempt Ronaldo?published at 15:21 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been talking to Cristiano Ronaldo and that their former star "knows that we're here".

Juventus are reported to be seeking around £25m for the five-time Champions League winner.

"We've always had a good communication - I know Bruno has been talking to him as well," said Solskjaer.

"He knows what we feel about him and if he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows that we're here."

  16. Where next for Ronaldo - your reaction?published at 15:16 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

    #bbcfootball

Brian Pingu: Find it very hard to believe Manchester City were ever really interested. There can't be another player in world football less suited to a Guardiola side. Let Manchester United have him and his £400k a week wages.

Shihab Rahman: He's Portuguese, he's coming to Wolves.

Ronaldo in an old gold shirt. Marvellous.

  17. Old Trafford return for CR7?published at 15:13 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

If you're just joining us, Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is believed they were offered the player and considered it before deciding against the signing.

With City definitely out of the running, the door is now open for the five-time world player of the year to make a return to his former club Manchester United.

Dan Snelson: Yes please he needs to come home.

Phil: All those Utd ‘fans’ calling him a snake and burning shirts a few hours ago. You couldn’t make it up.

Tommy Walker: Man City dropped out probably when they found out it was a competition between Utd and he’d likely choose them. Saving face. Also probably dropped out when they heard Sir Alex spoke to CR7 this morning.

  19. Nuno coy over transfer dealingspublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

Tottenham v Watford (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "What we need and what we believe we'll keep is among ourselves.

"I'm so sorry to not answer that question but of course we speak, we see, we analyse and we have to decide and like I say it's not easy to find the right players because we have very good players.

"As long as it is open anything can happen. We have to be aware of the situations of all the team, the window is going to close on Tuesday, until then let's see."

  20. Ndombele's situation at Spurs remains unresolvedpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

Tottenham v Watford (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says Tanguy Ndombele will not be involved against Watford.

The club's record signing has not featured at all during pre-season or the first four games of the campaign and is understood to have asked to leave the club.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will let him leave before Tuesday's transfer window deadline, but the French midfielder will play no part against the Hornets on Sunday.

Asked whether his situation had changed, Nuno said: "No, we speak yesterday and we speak the day before, Tanguy is with us. "He's not been an option. Nothing has changed really."
