A free-kick is floated to the edge of the area by Erin Curthbert and is knocked down for Sam Kerr on the left.

    Svenja Huth

Svenja Huth with hers and Wolfsburg's second of the night.

The captain is putting in an almighty shift and could well be sending the Germans to the quarter-finals.

She was completely unmarked in the box as she met a cut-back pass from Tabea Wassmuth to slot home.

  3. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Wolfsburg 1-0 Chelsea

Opportunities have presented themselves for Chelsea. Fran Kirby is the latest to call Wolfsburg goalkeeper Almuth Schult into action, but she is equal to it.

  4. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Wolfsburg 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea go looking for a quick response, Melanie Leupolz has a shot blocked and Chelsea have a corner.

The ball then falls to Millie Bright on the edge of the area, but the chance comes to nothing when the ball sat up nicely for the defender

  5. goal

    Svenja Huth

    Wolfsburg take a precious lead.

Captain Svenja Huth plays a wonderful ball to Shanice van de Sanden, who has a shot saved by Zecira Musovic. The keeper, however, parries the ball straight to Huth, who does enough as she slips to find the back of the net.

  6. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

From the corner, the ball falls to Felicitas Rauch in the box and she drills a low effort at goal.

Zecira Musovic does well to smother it at the near post.

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Wolfsburg very much on top in the opening 13 minutes. A cross is crashed into Magdelena Eriksson and we have a corner.

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Lena Oberdorf is certainly one player that Chelsea will be paying plenty of attention to, having created two of Wolfsburg’s three goals when they met earlier in the group stage.

  9. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Lena Oberdorf isn't far away from giving Wolfsburg an early lead.

She catches her shot wonderfully well from outside the box, but it flashes by the post.

  10. Postpublished at 9 min

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Svenja Huth makes a great run right up the middle for the hosts. Chelsea's defence back off the Wolfsburg captain and she goes on to race into the box.

She had been looking to play a pass but looks up and decides to go for goal herself. Her attempt, however, is a tame one.

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea come into this game having suffered a first-ever WSL defeat by Reading on Saturday. The result, which ranks as the shock of the season to date, leaves them four points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Wolfsburg, who are top of the Frauen-Bundesliga, also dropped points at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leverkusen.

  12. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Pernille Harder tries her luck for Chelsea early on.

A bit of space opens up for her on the right edge of the area and she tries to test Wolfsburg goalkeeper Almuth Schult.

Her shot, however, is a wild one and goes well over the bar.

  13. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

Wolfsburg get forward on the right through captain Svenja Huth.

Her cross is a deflected one that is gathered by Zecira Musovic at the near post.

Shanice van de Sanden was right on top of the keeper and actually caught her with a boot. No damage done.

  14. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Wolfsburg 0-0 Chelsea

By Chelsea standards they are in the midst of a goal drought. After scoring three in the delayed 2020-21 Women’s FA Cup final win against Arsenal on 5 December, the Blues have failed to score in two games since.

They will want to change that tonight. Actually, I dare say they will have to change that tonight.

    Wolfsburg v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

This decisive group game in Germany is the latest instalment in a fierce rivalry between two sides who have met in Europe's top club competition five times in the past seven seasons.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said they "know what to do", adding that "we enjoy our games against Wolfsburg".

"We know both teams are full of goals," she said. "For us, it's about using all our experience and our wisdom to make sure the team takes care of the right details.

"We're looking forward to it. These are the games you want to be in, where teams actually come out against you."

Chelsea got past Wolfsburg at the quarter-final stage of the competition last season in a two-legged tie played in Budapest. They have never beaten Wolfsburg in three previous trips to Germany.

  17. Who has already qualified?published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2021

Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Lyon, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid have all booked their spots in the last eight.

The Gunners limped to the quarter-finals in the end, having been beaten 4-1 by Hoffenheim on Wednesday. Another two goals from the Germans would have sent them through.

It's no wonder Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall had "a terrible feeling" that their Women's Champions League quarter-final spot was about "slip through our hands".
