At the other end, Harvey Barnes cuts in from the left but his curling shot doesn't have enough bend on it and is straight down the throat of Illan Meslier.

Mikel Arteta taking charge of his 100th game as Arsenal boss today.

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Antonio Conte is a serial winner, you have to listen to him. At Chelsea, Inter, Juve, he’s a winner. He’s brought in three fitness coaches. They have one of the lowest running stats in the league. Soon they’ll be one of the highest.

Tanguy Ndombele, I think he’s one of the most talented individuals in the Premier League. If he can get him working hard, they’ve got one hell of a player. If players don’t buy into it, they’ll buy new players in January.

Ian: Very disappointing to see Dean Smith lose his job at Aston Villa. Seemed like an all round decent guy, villa fan and was doing a good job over the past 3 years. Seems a little rash especially considering the impact of the Jack Grealish transfer, covid and the international breaks.

  13. 'Villa sinking like a stone - I get it'published at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

Aston Villa sack manager Dean Smith

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Villa's standards have gotten higher. Losing five games in a row, they're sinking like a stone and that shouldn't be happening for a team that was aiming as high as they were, so I get it.

This is the last chance before the international break and that gives them two weeks to appoint someone new, the time wouldn't be right later in the season.

Dean Smith has taken them so far, so it's a shame, but as far as results go they haven't been good enough.

What a great stat this is.

Watford's last five away wins in the Premier League have come under different head coaches: Javier Gracia, Quique Sanches Flores, Nigel Pearson, Xisco Munoz and Claudio Ranieri.

Pav: No Villa fan will feel any joy at departure of Dean Smith but many of will agree its the right thing to do given current state & prospects. Eternally grateful for all he's done to bring so much joy & ambition back to this wonderful club. Wish him nothing but the best.

  17. 'Harsher than Farke sacking'published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

Aston Villa sack manager Dean Smith

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

That seems harsher than the Daniel Farke sacking [at Norwich]. I know we shouldn't compare.

They've lost five in a row, I get that, they wanted to build on last season.

They've lost Jack Grealish but you do feel that when their new signings get it together, Danny Ings, Emi Buendia, they'll be fine. It does seem harsh that they've hit this sticky patch and he's not been given a chance to turn it around.

  18. 'The pressure's on'published at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

    Everton v Tottenham (14:00 GMT)

    Michael Brown
Former Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a huge game for Everton, the pressure's on.

One thing we haven't seen is these Everton supporters showing their anger or disbelief at the fact that they're not in a position in the league that's expected of them. They want to do better.

They've showed promise at times. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is obviously a huge miss. I just don't know if the manager can win these fans over.

  19. No 'old school leader' in Spurs squadpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

    Everton v Tottenham (14:00 GMT)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm on BBC Radio 5 Live:

"The situation over the past few years has been very up and down. I don't think Tottenham have a real old school leader in the squad that will say 'boys, we need to change this around.'

"Harry Kane is struggling for goals, he's focussing on his own performance and so it's hard to be that leader.

"I think Antonio Conte will make sure that the players speak more and are more direct."
