  6. McGinn hails Scots' 'momentum'published at 21:10 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

John McGinn thinks Scotland have to be content with sitting second in Group F but need to make sure there are no slips in the race for a World Cup play-off spot.

"At the start of the group, you want to finish top, but to be fair to Denmark, they’ve been by far the better team in the group," he says.

"We didn’t want the win over Austria to go to waste and thankfully tonight we made sure it wasn’t. Hopefully, we get to that 20-point mark as soon as possible.

"There’s a real momentum and belief around the team now. We feel the belief in the country as well."

  9. 'It's sad we only meet up every couple of months'published at 20:59 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

John McGinn would like to play every week for Scotland it seems.

"There’s a club feeling around the squad - it doesn’t come overnight," the midfielder tells BBC Scotland. "We’re all mates.

"It’s a great dressing room to be in and it’s sad we only meet up once or twice every couple of months, that’s the only disappointing thing.

"It’s definitely a big reason in the results we’re getting at the moment. We’re just hungry players, hungry to succeed for our country and, when you look at it selfishly, you dream of going to a World Cup."

  10. Gilmour 'a world-class player'published at 20:54 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

Scotland's John McGinn is full of praise for fellow midfielder Billy Gilmour, the 20-year-old earning his sixth cap despite having lost his starting place at Norwich City on loan from Chelsea.

"He’s a world-class player," the Aston Villa man suggests. "He’s going through a wee rough patch at Norwich and frustrated not to be playing, but when he’s in the Scotland jersey, he’s always at the top of his game. He’s learning on the job as well."

Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson also made his second Scotland start and McGinn adds: "Him and Nathan will make mistakes, but both of them are top-quality players and we’re lucky to have them."

  11. McGinn not surprised by Marciano penalty savepublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

John McGinn, scorer of Scotland's first equaliser, has sympathy for former Hibernian team-mate Ofir Marciano, who produced several fine saves - one to deny the midfielder.

"Ofi is a really good friend of mine - I’ll go and see him in a minute," he tells BBC Scotland. "I remember from my time at Hibs he was always very, very good at saving penalties, so I had a wee sick feeling in my stomach when I saw Lyndon run-up when Ofi was there.

"A majestic performance from him and really good to know that, even though he was on the losing side, he’s still playing well and, if he keeps playing like that, he’ll be a starter for Feyenoord soon."

  17. It shows we can score goals - Clarkepublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

Steve Clarke thinks his normally shot-shy side are beginning to find their scoring boots.

"The pleasing thing for me as the coach is people say we can’t score goals - 17 shots, nine on target," the Scotland head coach says.

"On a night where we needed to score three goals, we scored three goals. So that tells you that we can score goals.

"For the confidence of the group moving forward, I think that’s a big thing."

  18. And now its 3-0published at 20:29 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

  19. Clarke's half-time reading of riot actpublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

Steve Clarke reveals what he said to turn the game round against Israel.

"I told them at half time - if you do want to lose the game, you’re doing it in the perfect fashion," he tells BBC Sportsound. "The talk at half time was really just - we have to play it our way.

"We have to play with more tempo, a little bit more ambition, control the game better and we did that from the start of the second half more or less to the 96th minute.

    "We got our reward."
