  1. McTominay goal tribute to grandfatherpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 9 October 2021

    FT: Scotland 3-2 Israel

Scotland match-winner Scott McTominay reveals "I knew I had to score before my grandad's birthday on Monday".

"I can’t put it into words, I’ll never forget it," he tells Sky Sports.

"We know they’re a difficult team, but in the second half we dominated them in my opinion on the pitch. We created a huge amount of chances.

"At half-time, we knew we had to wake up. They were more aggressive, more aware, more compact as a team in the first 45."

What a second half. There were small changes we needed to make and we did. Gilmour got higher and it allowed McTominay to bounce balls off Patterson and go beyond too

Fury v Wilder won't have as many haymakers thrown tonight as there was here. Young and old, all generations bouncing around Hampden. They were knocked down twice, but they got up off the canvas

Here's what that nerve-shredding win means to World Cup qualifying Group F.

Scotland move to within four points of group leaders Denmark.

But, more importantly, they inch four clear of Israel with runners-up spot and a place in the play-offs a more realistic prospect.

Hampden is rocking like it's the return of Oasis.

A combination of relief, joy and pride is engulfing the historic old arena.

Scott McTominay was having probably his worst display in a Scotland jersey - but up he pops to end the night the match-winning hero.

    Scotland have done it!

Scott McTominay's first goal for his country and how important that could be.

Twice they come back off the ropes, looked down and out at half time, but a superb second-half performance extends their advantage in second place in their World Cup qualifying group.

    Scott McTominay

    Wow! It's there!

John McGinn's inswinging corner shaves off the top of a sea of heads and Scott McTominay forces it over the line at the back post.

It comes off a painful part of the Manchester United man's anatomy, but it is a major relief for Scotland.

With time almost up, the home side lead.

    What a chance!

A beautiful piece of footwork from Ryan Christie and he cuts it back for John McGinn.

However, his fellow midfielder's low prod of a shot is scooped clear by goalkeeper Ofir Marciano's left foot.

    Should have scored!

I think, on the balance of play, Scotland would deserve a winner. They're looking for someone to be a hero out there. Could it be John McGinn? Him and Christie are playing very close to Dykes up front just now
