    FT: QPR 2-0 Luton

Well, that was a very pleasant way to welcome back the Championship after its two-week hiatus.

We'll be back for much, much more on Saturday - 10 matches, plus the usual packed schedule across Leagues One and Two.

    Thank you for joining me.

The stats probably don't quite reflect what was, on the whole, a very watchable game.

Luton shot on sight but rarely found the target while QPR were more considered in their approach and had the quality to make it count.

The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium has been a fortress for Mark Warburton's side in 2021 and if that continues into next year they could well stay there or thereabouts.

Victory sees QPR move above Stoke into fifth, until tomorrow at least, and three points above seventh-placed Blackburn.

Luton are five points behind the R's, in 11th, and could drop a few places tomorrow in a congested Championship table.

Goals from Chris Willock and Charlie Austin seal the points for QPR, who move up a place to fifth in the Championship.

Willock's first-half lob got things going before Austin's composed second-half header.

They were the home side's only shots on target, while Luton had 16 attempts but rarely managed to test R's keeper Semy Dieng.

    QPR 2-0 Luton

QPR have deserved their win but Luton will wonder where this game could've gone had they not conceded while their tails were up, early in this second half.

  6. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Kal Naismith crosses for Luton and QPR keeper Semy Dieng can only parry the ball to Elijah Adebayo, who clearly wasn't expecting it and doesn't react in time to divert the ball towards goal.

That sums up Luton's night from an attacking perspective.

  7. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

QPR's Chris Willock beats two defenders and finds Luke Amos, who overthinks things on the edge of the box when he really should've pulled the trigger.

Luton look to spring a counter but Rob Dickie halts it and receives a booking.

We're into four minutes of stoppage time.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 89 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

It's been another impressive showing from QPR playmaker Ilias Chair, who's withdrawn in the closing minutes.

The home fans sing his name loud and clear as he trudges off.

Luke Amos comes on in his place.

  9. Postpublished at 87 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

The hosts are playing some nice keep ball as they look to take the sting out of things.

Luton heads are perhaps starting to go down a bit.

Time is running out and they simply haven't shown enough quality inside the final third.

  10. CLOSE!published at 83 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

QPR try to shepherd the ball out of play and almost pay the price.

The ball breaks for Admiral Muskwe, who snatches at his shot which flies wide of the near post.

Luton have lacked composure in front of goal tonight, that's for sure.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 81 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Another QPR change - Albert Adomah is given a standing ovation by the home faithful as he comes off for Osman Kakay.

Luton have had a few speculative efforts in this second half but haven't really carved out any clear opportunities.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 79 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

The quality of James Bree's crossing has been decent enough but, to their credit, QPR have defended them well and Luton have struggled to get too many men forward in open play.

Both sides make a change - goalscorer Charlie Austin makes way for midfielder Sam Field while Cameron Jerome replaces Allan Campbell for the visitors.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 77 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Experienced QPR striker Charlie Austin stands on the Achilles of Luton's Fred Onyedinma and is rightly booked.

The resulting free-kick is never really cleared but the ball won't fall for Luton as they look to halve their deficit.

    QPR 2-0 Luton

It's James Bree once again - he whips it across goal but QPR keeper Semy Dieng catches the ball nicely.

Luton are throwing a lot at this but QPR are still carrying a threat on the break.

  15. Postpublished at 73 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Luton have another free-kick in the attacking third as Kal Naismith is fouled out wide.

This ball will be going into the box, I imagine.

  16. Postpublished at 71 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

The QPR wall does its job in blocking James Bree's attempt, with Henri Lansbury's rebound attempt wild and out of control.

Less than 20 minutes of normal time remain for Luton to get back into this.

  17. Postpublished at 70 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Henri Lansbury is clever as he takes a heavy touch and falls over a challenge from QPR's Albert Adomah.

Luton have themselves a free-kick in a dangerous position...

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Luton boss Nathan Jones turns to his bench for the first time.

Harry Cornick, who's been quiet by his own high standards, is replaced by perennial impact sub Admiral Muskwe.

  19. Postpublished at 67 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Kal Naismith puts in a tantalising cross from deep which is prodded behind by QPR defender Jimmy Dunne.

The Luton corner is cleared. The hosts counter-attack quickly again and win a corner of their own which, you guessed it, is also cleared.

    Lively.

  20. Postpublished at 63 mins

    QPR 2-0 Luton

Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu goes for the high tariff 25-yard strike and the ball flies high and wide of the QPR goal.

Luton don't need to get desperate quite yet. They've been creating some decent openings when they've played it right.
