Milena Bertolini is highly regarded by both the media and the team. She's a fantastic woman, calm, always available but at the same time authoritative and with clear ideas. Her team plays possession-based football.

As a player, she spent 15 seasons in the Italian top flight and started coaching after finishing her career in 2001. She coached at Verona and Reggiana before moving to Brescia in 2012 where she had her greatest success, including reaching the Champions League quarter-finals in 2016. That team is the basis of this current national team.

Bertolini, who entered the Italian football Hall of Fame in 2018, is now faced with the difficult task of meeting expectations as well as having to initiate a necessary generational change because Italy have a rather high average age in the squad.

In Italy there is great anticipation for the women's national team for two reasons: The first is the excellent performance made in France 2019 when the team reached the quarter-finals; the second is the lack of qualification, for the second consecutive edition, of the men's national team for the World Cup in Qatar.

However, recent performances of the women's team have not been very convincing, although a victory in Switzerland in April allowed them to move into top spot in their World Cup qualifying group.

This shows that the team have built a strong unit and know how to get results when it counts. The first goal for this summer's Euros is to qualify from the group stages.

Coach Thorsteinn Halldorsson has been in charge for about 16 months and he has managed to put his touch on the team. Before joining in January 2021, he had coached in men's football and then at Breidablik women's team since 2014, where he won the Icelandic Championship three times and took the side to the last 16 of the Champions League in 2019.

He is very successful and respected in the game. Before he started coaching he was a player, making more than 150 appearances as a defender in the top men's division. Thorsteinn has a fixed playing style and it seems like he is transferring that from Breidablik to the national team. He has had success so far.

Icelanders are positive going into the Euros and see a great opportunity to qualify from Group D. France are obviously the favourites but we believe we can do well against them, as well as against Belgium and Italy.

Saying we expect to qualify would perhaps be a bit strong but we hope and really believe that we can.

The form of the team has been very good. In the last year, Iceland have only lost two competitive games - against very strong teams in the Netherlands and United States. New and fresh players such as Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir and Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir have made a huge impact.

This is two-year-old Bodvar with his mum, Saerun, who have come all the way from Reykjavík to support Iceland in Manchester.

It is Bodvar's first tournament and it looks like he is wearing the coolest hat in Manchester.

On Sunday, a 25ft inflatable flew over the Belgium-Iceland game questioning why the Academy Stadium is being used for a major tournament instead of across the road at Etihad Stadium.

"We would have liked to have played in the main stadium, but it's OK," Saerun says.

That figure is set to be passed with 15 matches of Euro 2022 still to be played after today.

Iceland come into this game off the back of a four game unbeaten run - which includes that 1-1 draw with Belgium, earned through a goal from Berglind Borg Thorvaldsdottir, who had earlier missed a penalty.

But for Justine Vanhaevermaet's strike it would have been three points instead of one.

The draw does mean that Iceland have just the single victory from 11 Euros finals games in their history.

But across all their fixtures, Thorsteinn Halldorsson's side have taken nine wins from the last 11.

So yeah, it was a disastrous start to the Euros for Italy, who were 5-0 down at half-time to an admittedly brilliant France team.

A Grace Geyoro hat-trick and goals from Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Delphine Cascarino did the damage, before Martina Piemonte grabbed a consolation in the second half.

A very chastening result then for a side that had actually won five of their previous seven games. If they really need a positive from Sunday it is that they continued their record of having scored in each of their last 18 games.

Italy became the first team to concede five goals in the first half of a Women’s Euros match in their 5-1 defeat to France.

They respond by making five changes.

Martina Piemonte, who came off the bench to score, is among those drafted into the starting line-up.

One change for Iceland from the side that started the 1-1 draw with Belgium last time out.

Elisa Vidarsdottir comes in for Sif Atladottir, who starts on the bench.

Iceland had 23 shots against Belgium, one more than they managed in total at Euro 2017.

Iceland will be hoping to capitalise on a damaged Italy.

They began their tournament with a 1-1 draw with Belgium in what was an entertaining encounter at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.

If they can earn just a second Euros win in their history this evening, they will give themselves a very good chance of reaching the last eight.

We'll probably see a Viking clap too.

It will have been a long four days for Italy between Sunday's 5-1 loss to France and today's game in Manchester.

But they've dusted themselves off and are ready to go again. Question is, will the scars have fully healed?
