    What a night.

England made a mockery of the idea that major tournament semi-finals are stressful, nerve-jangling affairs.

Tomorrow, we find out which of France and Germany will face them at Wembley for the big one and once again we'll be all over the coverage, so be sure to join us.

I'll leave you with Alessia Russo's backheel...

England’s Beth Mead scored her sixth goal at this summer’s European Championships, becoming the country’s top scorer in the competition’s history in the process, while no player has scored more goals in a single edition of the competition than her (Inka Grings also six for Germany in 2009).

Alessia Russo has now scored four goals at this summer’s European Championships, all coming as a substitute. Indeed, no nation has scored more goals via subs than England (5) at Euro 2022.

    The records keep coming...

This the biggest ever semi-final victory in the history of the Women’s European Championships.

It is also Sweden’s heaviest ever defeat at the Women’s European Championships, while it’s just the second time they have conceded four goals in the competition, doing so previously against Norway in a 4-3 semi-final defeat in February 1995.

For English women's football this is a great moment. It's not only a month's work, this is years and years of years of work, investment, passion and commitment. You're bearing the fruits of it now.

And so, England have reached the final of the Women’s European Championships for the third time, doing so previously in 1984 and 2009.

Indeed, the Lionesses have ended a run of losing each of their last three semi-finals at either the World Cup (2015 and 2019) and Euros (2017).

They have now beaten Sweden for a fourth time in all competitions (D8 L15), with three of those victories coming in the previous seven contests (D1 L3), having won just one of the first 20 such occasions.

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC One

    On her 4-0 pre-match prediction:

I always believed if we could break the Swedish press we could hurt them. Once we sussed them out it showed. We weren't under pressure after the first goal.

    I loved the celebrations.

Incredible. I can't express how proud I am of the girls. They had a tough quarter-final. They dominated a team ranked second in the world.

We're in a fantastic place, the game is in a fantastic place. I'm excited for Sunday. The nation really got behind them.

  20. 'Russo is doing it'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    FT: England 4-0 Sweden

    Ian Wright
Former England striker on BBC One

The improvisation is fantastic. When she came on she instantly made an impact. She links play. I’m not sure what more she needs to do to start. When you look at Ellen White’s contribution over the years you can’t question it. But she hasn’t done enough in this tournament. This girl [Russo] is doing it. I don’t think Wiegman will change it.
