  2. 'A lucky goal in the end'published at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Chelsea 3-2 Leeds

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to Match of the day: "I liked the first half a lot. The way we found solutions to overcome the pressing. The intensity, effort. Very happy.

"OK, we gave a cheap penalty away and had to live with it.

"We didn't take the controlled risks we did in the first half and Leeds played stronger and stronger.

"They were taking the risks as they had nothing to lose. They got their late equaliser but I'm happy we turned it around this time. We have suffered from late goals in last two matches but it was our turn today.

"It was an intense game. You cannot have a top controlled match against Leeds, it is impossible as they force you into a wild, intense style of football. We accepted this.

"A lucky goal in the end but we did everything to deserve this."

On Jorginho's two penalties: "It is never easy to take the two penalties against the same keeper."

Leeds United teenager Joe Gelhardt, speaking to MOTD about scoring:

"It was an unbelievable experience scoring my first Premier League goal. I’m sad my family couldn't be here, but I know they were watching at home.

"It was unfortunate at the end with the penalty, but that is football.

"When I came on I came on to try impact the game. The manager just told me to get on it. When the goal went in, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to react. It was a special moment."

There's been lots of talk about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being left out of the Arsenal squad today - David Ornstein has tweeted an exclusive saying the player was dropped for a late return from a trip abroad last week.

He was allowed to go for personal reasons, but was back later than agreed and it had Covid protocol implications - the journalist and Arsenal insider writes for The Athletic UK, that's what David Ornstein's reporting on Twitter.

  6. 'Lindelof was having difficulty breathing'published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Man United keeper David de Gea to Sky Sports, on defender Victor Lindelof's medical issue:

"When you see players like that feeling a bit... I don’t know what was going on, but we’ve seen already with Christian Eriksen, sometimes it’s a bit difficult to see your player acting like this so sometimes it’s better to change.

"He was having difficulty breathing and something was strange."

  7. 'De Gea won us the game'published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, speaking to Sky Sports:

"It was an away game, a very physical intense game.

"I've told Dean [Smith] that Norwich didn't play like a bottom team. They played like we played against Crystal Palace.

"In the second half we had a better body language up front but we still allowed them to have chances.

"In the end it is David de Gea who won us the game.

"You have to be physically present, that was not always the case in all positions. We need to always be physically present.

"Some of our players are technical players. There was not so much space to be technical. You need to be more physical, this is not something we did in all positions. We need to raise our level of intensity.

"It's not only a question of individual players, it's how we play as a team. It's about winning first balls, second balls.

"Still, at least we got the three points, another clean sheet. But we need to improve also.

"Victor Lindelof had a collision, he can't even remember what it was. He was struggling to breathe. They have done all the tests and he seems OK."

  8. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, speaking to MOTD:

"We know the performance wasn't at a level we want it to be. We need to work on that, recover and go again on Tuesday.

"When you come away from home, it's always tough. The Premier League is so competitive. Tonight we didn't play at the intensity we showed against Crystal Palace, we need to work out why.

"But we got the clean sheet and the result we wanted.

"When a new manager comes in everyone's trying to impress. Every player in the dressing room wants to be starting for this club."

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Dean Smith, speaking to MOTD:

"I've seen the penalty back, does he make contact yes. But I can show you five or six challenges in the game that weren't given. We want consistency. There wasn't any consistency today.

"Manchester United found it too easy to ref the game. Marcus Rashford gave himself a free-kick in the first half.

"I know I sound like a sore loser but I didn't think we deserved to lose the game.

"Max Aarons has got to make contact with Ronaldo in the box otherwise he out jumps you. It's a soft pen, but there were soft moments in the game where he didn't give them.

"We had some really good chances but we know we have to get better in those big moments. That's what's going to get us out of danger.

"We knew the formation they would play, they give you wide areas. We tried to create two-vs-ones in wide areas.

"I'm really encouraged by our performance. There's some spirit in this squad.

"We've had a few players out but that happens in football. I'm pleased with our squad and the quality we're showing, we will get better."

  10. 'Norwich didn't play like a bottom team'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Rangnick to MOTD: "I haven’t seen that many teams play against the top teams like Norwich did so.

"They didn’t play like a bottom team.

"In the end we need to be able to compete on that kind of level and be physically ready. There’s still room for improvement in this area.

"In three days we have the next away game at Brentford and it won’t be any easier."

  11. 'We have a lot of work to do'published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick, speaking to MOTD: "It was a very intense game, very physical. They played well, they didn’t play like a bottom team. We had some problems in the first 15 minutes.

"From the start we controlled the game but didn’t always have the best possible solutions. Defensively we did well, tactically in the first half we didn’t allow them to have too many shots or chances.

"At half-time I told the boys we needed to increase the speed and intensity of the game. Th second half was a little bit better but at the end we were lucky to have a clean sheet and there were two or three clean sheets by David de Gea.

"It's another clean sheet but still a lot of work to do.

"The second half I was not at all happy with the amount of corners that we gave away, but we got the three points.

"We have conceded the highest amount of goals in the top ten. Now we have two clean sheets which is good but we still need to improve on that away, especially against physical teams or teams that attack high like Norwich did.

"It’s also a question of body language and physicality and this was one of the major issues that we could have done better."

  13. 'We need to punish teams'published at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Norwich City

Norwich midfielder Billy Gilmour, speaking to Sky Sports:

"We had a lot of opportunities. We never took our chances. Fair play to David de Gea, but we're disappointed.

"We got up the pitch but we just couldn't get the final product again, with the goal.

"We need to punish teams and try and score. Goals win you games and we're not doing that. But we're a strong team, we stick together.

"I've been told there was a possibility [we should have had a penalty]. I haven't seen it back.

"It's good to be back playing. That was the whole point coming here, to develop. With this squad I'm learning a lot."

  15. 'I’m feeling strong, very confident'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Man United goalkeeper David de Gea, speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s a massive win for us. Norwich have improved a lot with their new manager. We could play better, to be honest. The last 15 minutes we gave the ball away too easily.

"I was feeling very good, I was enjoying the game, I was focussed, I knew I had to make a couple of saves so I made them and helped the team win the game. Every save is important – especially when the team wins.

"I’m feeling very good, very strong, very confident. The most important thing is helping the team with my experience.

    On playing under Ralf Rangnick:

"It’s good, we’re defending better, today we conceded too many chances but he wants me to be ready for the long ball in-behind because he wants us to play very high, I have to be focussed for the whole game."

  18. 'A dubious penalty'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Dean Smith, speaking to MOTD: "I can’t complain about the performance. We know we’re up against a very good team in Manchester United but we didn’t take a backward step.

"We defended when we needed to and created some good moments. That’s what we need to get better at – those moments.

"We’ve just played two of the top six, we dominated at Tottenham but didn’t take our chances and we’ve gone toe-to-toe today with one of the big guns and a dubious penalty won it for them.

"Jacob Sorensen did really well, he came on for Grant Hanley, who's hurt his shoulder - that's a blow."

  20. 'De Gea did great'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Man United captain Harry Maguire, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tough game, we didn’t play as well as we’d like to play, sometimes you need to dig in and keep a clean sheet.

"When you're playing every week, some performances aren’t going to be at the highest level. We want to reach a level where every performance is high intensity, for sure we need to play better than that if we want to achieve what we want to achieve.

"The most important thing was the three points. It was tough conditions, they put us under pressure they were aggressive. If we keep a clean sheet, you’ve got a great chance of winning.

"In the last 10 or 15 minutes we didn’t look after the ball well enough. You see the top teams do it – they don’t play well every week but they still get the result.

"We’ve been very disappointed with our defensive record this year, we know we need to do better. David de Gea did great today."
