Martin McHugh: What sort of beast would Brighton be if they had a goal scorer of class?

Joshua Jerrard: Ralph out. Hate to say it but many of us Saints fans have lost faith. We need a fresh manager with fresh ideas.

Conor: My opinion is that if you can't field a team then you forfeit the game. This is why we have academies. There has to be consequences for not adhering to COVID regulations and this would force teams to be more disciplined in how they handle their players.

Southampton fans should be worried. Seem to be second best to all the sides around them at the moment, easily could sleepwalk into a relegation battle without a consistent run of results under their belt.

Still not a huge amount of quality on show at the Amex. Ruben Neves tries to change that but fires a shot straight at Robert Sanchez.

Norwich, Burnley and Southampton to be relegated at end of season.

Think it's fair to say that it has to be over for the Saints manager now. No improvement, no impact made from poor buys and selling their best players is going to cost them a place the league.

Odsonne Edouard should make it 2-0. He's in front of the defender, about 10 yards out, from Wilfried Zaha's cross but he weakly sidefoots it wide.

  11. 'Expectation is to lead by example'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2021

Arsenal v West Ham (20:00 GMT)

    Pat Nevin

It doesn't matter if you are captain or not; there are a set of rules set out before the season begins and everybody knows what they are and if one player breaks the rules, he has to be treated exactly the same as everyone else.

But the captain is different. The expectation is to lead by example and Aubameyang clearly hasn't been able to do that. If it's once, you can maybe nod it away and except it but if it's more than that, you have to come down hard because if you lose control there if you're the manager, then you lose control of a lot of things - you lose a deal of respect as well.

I can understand why Arteta has done it and I think they will already be looking around the squad and the names will be jumping out.

Aubameyang was an odd choice anyway...

This is one of those ones you just have to hit. James Ward-Prowse whips in a corner which is cleared well out of the box.

Oriol Romeu, 40 yards out, is running onto it and sees it bouncing and just hammers it first time but it flies over the bar.

Albion have been the more positive of the two sides so far. And they waste the best opportunity so far. Solly March is found on the right side of the box with a sight of goal, but slices his effort well wide.

David Moyes will tonight become the fourth manager to take charge of 600 Premier League games, emulating Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp.

He will be hoping he can use the milestone to break a bit of a hoodoo in his managerial career. The Scot has failed to win away at Arsenal in all 17 attempts in the Premier League - the longest run of any manager at a single club without ever winning.

He arrives with a West Ham side that has equalled its highest points tally of 28 after 16 matches of a Premier League season, but having only recorded one win in five Premier League fixtures following a run of four victories.

It has been a broken, disjointed opening 18 minutes or so. The injury to Hwang Hee-Chan has not helped. Neither side has been able to build up a head of steam yet.

A promising Saints break, this is much better from them. Armando Broja wins the ball off Cheikhou Kouyate midway through his own half and runs forward before finding Will Smallbone on the edge of the box but the Irishman snatches at his shot and it's well wide.

  20. 'You don't want a captain letting you down'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2021

Arsenal v West Ham (20:00 GMT)

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Middlesbrough & Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang situation must be very frustrating for Mikel Arteta.

It's another disciplinary incident with Aubameyang and that's why Arteta thought it was necessary to strip him of the club's captaincy because you don't want that one player in your team who you hold in high regard, who you want to set an example, letting you down.

Unfortunately, the ill-discipline has cost him his position as Arsenal captain and I'm sure he must be really disappointed about it.
