Robert Weaver: Got to feel for Steve Bruce. Can't help but feel he wasn't the main problem. The squad is simply not good enough. The financial backing from Ashley was woefully inadequate. Whoever comes in next is going to struggle at least in the short term.

Nuno Espirito Santo provided some team news ahead of Thursday's game confirming that Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon are both still out, while Steven Bergwijn is set to start.

He was also asked what he knew about Thursday's opponent Vitesse.

"A lot," he said.

"I have seen games. We have analysed and prepared the game and we have all the details.

"We know we are going to play a tough team. Very dynamic, aggressive, with a lot of speed in front. A team that is very aggressive in their football.

"We have to be really focused. We want to try and be in control of the game with and without the ball."

Here's more from Tottenham boss Nuno Espírito Santo.

Asked if it is a risk leaving behind the top players and whether he is taking the competition seriously?

"It's not about that," he said. "If someone gets that interpretation I cannot do anything.

"When you decide you don’t think about the risk. If you think about the risk you cannot decide. Decisions in life all of them have risks. It’s about trying to analyse and see what is better for us in terms of our process during the week and for the future.

"Next week we have another game so we have to measure all these things but what you are trying to say, if you allow me is not right.

"We respect all the competitions and all the games. We consider it's better for us to start the players who will start and leave some players behind so we are able to compete better on the Sunday and then we have Wednesday, over and over again.

"I repeat myself if you think about the risk you do not decide."

Tottenham Hotspur

Interestingly Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo says that the starting 11 from the Newcastle game over the weekend will not travel.

They will train with coach, Ian Cathro instead.

Asked whether the outfield players from the Newcastle win will stay at home? "Yes."

He was then asked if he has two teams - one for the Premier League and one for Europe?

"No, it’s not fair to say," said Nuno.

"It’s a situation we decided in this specific week. We consider this is the best way to go and compete well tomorrow and compete [at West Ham] well on Sunday.

"There is no difference. There is a squad and we have to make decisions. Decisions on who goes, who travels, who stays and who needs rest. Who needs days to recover better. All things we have to manage inside of the football club."

Let's hear more on Steve Bruce from Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, whose side travel to Holland to face Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

"It is always sad when someone loses their job," said Nuno.

"We have known each other a while after arriving in the Championship, the derbies [Wolves] against Villa. It’s very bad news. I hope he doesn’t retire. He still has a lot to give to the game.

“It is very hard to leave the game. Like Steve, like myself, we started as football players. When I think about me I don’t know what else I could do in life and I think that’s the same for Steve. It’s a hard decision for sure."

What kind of player does Steven Taylor think will come to Newcastle?

"You need someone to get the fans, like Hatem Ben Arfa when he came, the fans loved it, the way his style of play was.

"I think the way the team is at the moment you've got to look at a Philippe Coutinho type of player, someone who can take the pressure of Allan Saint-Maximin.

"You go back to the players that i've played with in midfield, you ask then who is the best player that you've played against the likes of Luka Modric that type of player, you need the quality.

"There's no point in getting the players who are unproven, you need Premier League experience.

"It's going to be tough for the lads, all eyes will be on Newcastle United in every single game now."

West Ham United

West Ham have won their opening two group games in the Europa League and manager David Moyes says he is "enjoying the European experience".

"I'm really enjoying it," said Moyes.

"We're a really happy club at the moment. Everyone's enjoying the league games, Europe and the Carabao Cup, so I have to say I'm really enjoying the European experience.

"I want the players to go far in it. It would be great if we could top the group, but trying to make sure that we go through would be the main aim at the moment."

West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes says Tomas Soucek is available for selection after having stitches to repair an injury to his face, which he suffered in the victory at Everton.

"Tomas Soucek is okay," said Moyes.

"He's obviously been a bit sore, had a stitch and he got his lip redone the other day by another doctor.

"He's had stitches in his lip, in his cheek and above his nose as well. I think he's fine.

"There's a decision whether we rest him, but I don't think his injury is any reason not to play him.

"He wants to play tomorrow. I said to him 'look at my eyebrows Tomas - all mine are stretched after years of being a centre-half!'

"He's got a few more stitches to go before he gets to this level."

West Ham United

Steve Bruce reached 1000 games as a manager before his departure from Newcastle, while West Ham boss David Moyes is five games away from the same milestone.

The pair know each other very well, having started their managerial careers in 1998.

Moyes will reach the landmark on 4 November, when West Ham play the reverse game of tomorrow night's Europa League tie with Genk.

"I know I'm very close and it was a great achievement by Steve to reach that number," said Moyes.

"I think it's very hard to get longevity in football management, because so many young managers lose their job after their first go at it.

"To get to this period is an achievement, so I praise Steve - and I know I've got it coming, if I can see through the next few games.

"I do believe management's much more difficult now than when I came into it. If you come into football management, you have to accept it - it comes with the job unfortunately.

"Most managers will always have periods when you're fighting to get results."

West Ham United

Speaking about Steve Bruce's departure from Newcastle, West Ham boss David Moyes said: "I am pleased for Steve that he kept Newcastle in the league when people expected him not to.

"I think you have to praise him for the work he did last season, which are my recent memories.

"I've got nothing but respect for him. The level of longevity he's had has been incredible.

"If he wants to, there'll be clubs out there who want him."

On the pressure managers face:

"It's very difficult. I think that people don't understand the implications, sometimes, of hearing people talk about us every day.

"It's a job, but when you come into it you accept it's part of it."I just repeat, Steve did a great job at Newcastle last year and kept them up in the Premier League when maybe over periods they've been a bit up and down."

If you're always getting talked about and criticised, it's not a nice thing, whether you're a football manager, or a journalist.

"You have to go ahead and go with what you want and what you believe. It happens every day."

So, who could take over?

Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor thinks whoever it is, it will not be a quick fix and the any new players must adapt to the city.

"It's not going to be an overnight fix, it's still going to be difficult for the next manager who comes in wheather it'll be a Steven Gerrard or a Frank Lampard but I do think that Newcastle fans will accept that in moving the club forward, get to January, can you bring four or five players in, do well this season and then really hit off next season.

"But there's still no talk on how much they will be spending, you've got to be careful in getting in the right players. They've got to come to the football club and understand what it's like in the city, playing for Newcastle United. It's not like your London teams where after the weekend talking about and they go back to their normal way of living.

"When you live in Newcastle and you're from the area, all week they are talking about it. I remember going to the supermarket you'll get an old granny coming up to you saying listen pull your finger out and make sure it doesn't happen again next week and that's just a little bit of what it means to the city and you've got to buy into that.

"These players expect the privacy, you ain't going to get the privacy, you're professional footballers in Newcastle, expect to interact with the fans.

"The biggest factor is how the are they going to bring the big names in, with their families, how are they going to buy into it because i've played with players over the years who just want to go to London and go back to Europe, they didn't enjoy the city, they've got to come and they've got to buy into it."

"The Newcastle fans lost their patience a lot with the results and you are based on your results and it was a very difficult time for Steve Bruce.

"When you're not winning games the fans especially up in the North East with the culture, you've got to be winning games and unfortunately for Steve it's come to this now."

Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has been on BBC Radio 5 Live reflecting on the news that Steve Bruce has left Newcastle as manager.

"I think it's been difficult for all of the managers who have worked underneath Mike Ashley over the years," said Taylor.

"With the new owners coming in it was inevitable that it was going to happen with a new era and a new start.

"For me, it's been tough because then you've got to look back at all of the other managers, and even speaking to a lot of the managers over the years, how their hands were tied, they weren't allowed to bring their players in. The upstairs hierarchy were the ones that were controlling everything that was going on.

"There's previous managers that I've played under who didn't want to play certain players, they got told to play these players and that's how it was at the football club at the time. It has been difficult."

West Ham manager David Moyes and midfielder Nikola Vlasic will be looking ahead to their side's Europa League meeting with Genk shortly.

The Hammers have six points from their opening two games and victory at the London Stadium would put them on the brink of qualification with three games to spare.

This has been another excellent season for Moyes and his team so far.

Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says his side will look to attack but should expect moments of pressure in Russia.

"In any game of football it is about balance, especially when you come away from home," said Rodgers.

"We will set out to attack the game and be aggressive in our build-up play. Our notion is always to create goals and score goals, but you have to be in balance and there will be moments in the game where we are under pressure.

"We have to stay calm under that pressure."
