Will: Coming from a Man City fan, I’d probably say that Salah is the most well balanced player in the world at the moment. Maybe not the best in every category, but always in the top 3. Going to be a tough ask to beat Liverpool if he keeps up his current form

  7. 'A team that can hurt you at any minute'published at 09:45 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    Chelsea v Malmo (20:00 BST)

So what about Chelsea's Swedish opponents Malmo?

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was weary about what they might cause his side if they are not careful.

"They play with confidence in their own style and they trust in what they are doing.

"They are not maybe used to this highest level that's why they are maybe struggling a little bit in the beginning of the group phase because the league in Sweden is not the same level like the Champions League.

"But still they have a certain style and we should absolutely not underestimate them.

"They have a very successful coach and as players, they are individually good. They are a team that can hurt you at any minute if we are not awake."

Malmo have yet to pick up a point from their two Champions League games, but they currently top the Swedish top flight on goals difference.

They come into Wednesday's game off the back of a 3-0 win at Ostersunds.

  8. Players are overplayed - Tuchelpublished at 09:39 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    Chelsea v Malmo (20:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Ahead of Wednesday's game Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said he felt some of his players are suffering because of the busy schedule for club and country.

The 48-year-old thinks the crowded calender is taking its toll on players like Mason Mount, Jorginho and Romelu Lukaku, who hasn't scored in six games for Chelsea.

"In this very moment I feel Romelu is a bit overplayed, I think he played too many competitions over the summer, too many competitions with the national team," said Tuchel.

"I feel he's a bit tired - not that we have a concern, but for me it's that he doesn't fully enjoy it without having second or third thoughts. For me he is overplayed a little bit. And this is the key point.

"And it's the same for some other players too, Mason and Jorginho. They have a lot of weight to carry for their countries. They take it and they love it, they are competitors.

"But if you play a thousand matches a year it can feel a bit heavy, although they love the game. They are such good guys but this is what I feel just between the lines."

    Chelsea v Malmo (20:00 BST)

Christian Pulisic is close to a return from injury but it will not come in Chelsea's Champions League Group H game with Malmo.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel says that the USA international is his only absentee for Wednesday's game.

The forward is in the final stages of his recovery from ankle trouble according to the German manager.

"He was already so close to coming to team training last week, then had a little setback," said Tuchel.

"A little reaction, some pain but nothing serious, and from there we go on."

Chelsea are second in Group H after two games, three points behind leaders Juventus.

Mohamed Salah is in the form of his life at the moment and some of the goals he is scoring are just brilliant, particularly the ones against Manchester City and more recently Watford.

He was on the scoresheet again last night and as mentioned earlier he is now Liverpool's highest scorer in the Champions League and is the first player in the club's history to score in nine consecutive appearances in all competitions.

So, is he the best player in the world right now, hard to argue but you might think someone else is and if so do let us know who is?

Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Let's hear more from Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose side resume their European campaign against Atalanta this evening.

"Of course it is not a gimmicky, jovial and happy camp," he said.

"We are focussed and determined. You look at yourself and ask what you can do to help the team.

"I have seen a reaction. Conceding four goals [against Leicester] is a big eye-opener and we need to improve on different levels and on loads of detail.

"Winning at home against Atalanta would be massive and a big boost."

  13. Solskjaer rejects Carragher criticismpublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00 BST)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is not affected by suggestions Manchester United need to change their manager in order to win the biggest trophies.

Solskjaer, 48, was responding to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher's comments on Sky Sports that United need a new manager to challenge for titles.

"It doesn't affect me," Solskjaer said.

"I believe in myself, as long as the club believes in me. I am pretty sure Jamie Carragher's opinion is not going to change that."

Solskjaer has come under increasing pressure with his team lying fifth in the Premier League table after a 4-2 defeat at Leicester City on Saturday.

  15. What does future hold for Lingard?published at 08:50 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00 BST)

Manchester United are in action tonight and it has been quite a year for forward Jesse Lingard.

He started it firmly out of the picture at Manchester United but a loan spell at West Ham reignited his form and now he's providing assists for Cristiano Ronaldo and finding himself a wanted man in the Premier League again.

A return to the Hammers had appeared to be an option over the summer while Newcastle, fresh from their recent big-money takeover, are thought to be contemplating a move for the forward in January's transfer window.

The Champions League has seen the best and worst of Lingard this season and he will be hoping to get another chance to make an impression when Manchester United host Atalanta on Wednesday evening.

But does Lingard - who is out of contract next summer - see his long-term future at Old Trafford? Or would he be better off heading elsewhere? Read more here.

  19. Messi in the goals againpublished at 08:24 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    PSG 3-2 RB Leipzig

Lionel Messi scored twice as Paris St-Germain came from behind to beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Kylian Mbappe put the hosts ahead, slamming into the bottom corner on the counter-attack.

But Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele scored from Angelino crosses to put the German side ahead.

Messi had a shot tipped onto the post and tapped the rebound into an empty net - and then scored a Panenka penalty to win the game.

PSG won a penalty deep into injury time, but instead of Messi stepping up for a hat-trick, Mbappe took it instead - and skied it over the bar.

  20. 'On a night like this, getting three points is really nice'published at 08:19 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    Atletico Madrid 2-3 Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "A tough game which we expected. We did surprisingly well at the beginning. Did we expect it to be that defensive? Probably not. It was not so easy. We scored two wonderful goals then played good football.

"It was 2-0 then obviously Atletico are not too bothered about having possession. The first goal we gave away then the second, it was nice play but the gaps we had there...That was not alright. At half time I think everyone in the stadium thought it was only going one way and we thought 'let's give it a proper try again.'

"We played a really solid second half in a tough game with intense football from both teams. We got the penalty, then there was a red card and obviously it was in our favour.

"They just won the balls and we didn't do the right stuff anymore. We chose the easy pass but we needed to play between the lines. The last line was pretty deep. Then they came with wing-backs and midfielders and we stayed there instead of accelerating. The game was too slow and that was what they wanted. That was why the momentum changed.

"I saw it and our penalty is a penalty. I think the other one is not a penalty but I didn't expect it. I think it's the right decision. The red card was for sure unlucky but it is a red card. A foot in the face. It can happen. It was a tough game. Honestly, how we win it, I couldn't care less! On a night like this, getting three points is really nice."

On Diego Simeone not shaking his hand: "We don't like that but yes the situation is clear. I want to shake his hand. His reaction for sure, like mine, was not so cool. The next time we see each other we will shake hands definitely. It's nothing. He was obviously angry, not with me but with the game. There is nothing else."
