West Ham v Leeds (14:00 GMT)

Leeds United have lost all four competitive meetings against West Ham since returning to the Premier League in 2020.

The Hammers can equal their club record of four successive league victories in this fixture.

Leeds could lose consecutive league visits to West Ham for the first time since December 1974.

I think the other night was a big lesson for Jurgen Klopp. Players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones need to step up and do more, and stake a claim for the long term.

  3. Can Brentford keep them out?published at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

    Liverpool v Brentford (14:00 GMT)

The only teams to win on their first Premier League visit to Anfield since 1993 are Newcastle, Barnsley, Watford and Blackpool.

    Can Brentford join them?

The Bees need to keep it tight at the back. While Liverpool are without key forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, they are still a threat.

Brentford have only managed two clean sheets in their last 18 matches. They have conceded the opening goal in 12 of their past 13 top-flight fixtures, while a league-high 20 of the 30 goals they have let in have been in the first half.

BUT... They drew 3-3 with Liverpool at home in September so who says they can't do it again?

West Ham v Leeds (14:00 GMT)

    Leeds United

Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw on signing a new contract to Sky Sports: "It's been well-documented I had a tough time so it was to repay the faith. It was a no-brainer for me."

On Leeds' season: "Teams below are starting to pick up points, we're well aware of that so we need to try and go on a run."

  5. What form are they in?published at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

West Ham v Leeds (14:00 GMT)

West Ham are starting to find their form again and their tally of 37 points is their highest after 21 matches in a Premier League season.

They have won three consecutive league games, following a run of only one victory in seven.

Leeds are not enjoying the same success - largely due to injuries - but should still have more than enough to stay up.

They have 19 points after 19 Premier League matches, seven points fewer than at the halfway stage of last season.

They have struggled scoring away from home too - recording just eight goals in nine away league fixtures this season.

Leeds lost to West Ham in their FA Cup tie on Sunday but they did beat Burnley in their last league game.

  7. How big is Liverpool's task?published at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

    Liverpool v Brentford (14:00 GMT)

Manchester City's win over Chelsea has added pressure to Liverpool's task today.

They need a flawless second half of the season to stand any chance of challenging for the title.

Their form has dipped of late too. Liverpool have won just one of their past six games in all competitions and none of their last three in the Premier League.

They have also dropped points in five of their seven Premier League matches against London opposition this campaign.

Tipsforlife: Liverpool absolutely must win today or the title is over. Even if they can beat City on April 9th, they already need to outscore them by another 5 or 6 points depending on GD. That's already unlikely, but maybe not impossible. Any more and it's over

For a player who was signed by Barcelona for £142m, to replace an iconic Brazilian in Neymar, coming off the bench for Aston Villa to score an equaliser against Manchester United just over four years later would not normally be viewed as a cause for celebration.

But given what Philippe Coutinho has been through since he swapped Liverpool for the Nou Camp and embarked on a journey that just seemed to take him further from his intended path the longer it went on, there was an immense sense of satisfaction for the 29-year-old as he left Villa Park with cheers ringing in his ears.

FA Cup highlights: West Ham United 2-0 Leeds United

Jarrod Bowen helped inspire West Ham to victory over Leeds in the FA Cup third round earlier this week.

Bowen was the Hammers' standout performer, sealing the win with their second goal in stoppage-time.

Manuel Lanzini forced home the opener from close range after Nikola Vlasic had been denied by Illan Meslier.

Leeds were without 10 first-team players, while West Ham named a strong side.

    FT: Norwich 2-1 Everton

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If Rafa Benitez did exceptionally well for years, it still might not have been enough for some Everton fans. For him to not have done so well and the team to be struggling looking the way it does at the moment makes it look that much worse.

    FT: Norwich 2-1 Everton

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

There’s not been a plan at Everton for years in my opinion. I knew it would be a big struggle for him when he got the job. He started ever so well, but once you have been such a good manager at Liverpool, there were always going to be hard times when you lose matches.

But what do you do? Sack him now or wait to the end of the season? Top six – no chance, they should be looking over their shoulders.

Mohamed Salah scored the only goal against Guinea-Bissau to kick-start Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

But the Pharaohs rode their luck as Mama Balde had a stunning late equaliser for the Djurtus ruled out after a video assistant referee review.

Record seven-time winners Egypt, who lost their Group D opener 1-0 against Nigeria, struck the woodwork three times in a game they largely dominated.

Salah volleyed in with 21 minutes left to secure a crucial victory in Garoua.

There was a point in the first half at Carrow Road yesterday when the home and away fans harmonised.

Everton's travelling contingent demanded that Rafael Benitez "get out of our club".

The Norwich supporters predicted the opposition manager was getting "sacked in the morning".

The Toffees' 2-1 defeat meant they lost nine of their last 12 Premier League games, sinking from fourth in the table at the start of October to 15th.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has been staunch in his support of Rafael Benitez since the his appointment in June. But how much longer can his patience last?
