  1. 'It is a huge mistake'published at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira to Sky Sports on the penalty decision: "It is a huge mistake by the referee and that took away the hope to comeback. Of course it had a massive impact. The referees today didn't have a really good game at all. Some of these decisions had a massive impact. It happens too often at home, especially when we play these big teams."

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says Lucas Moura and Oliver Skipp had knocks against Leicester, so start on the bench, while Emerson Royal is also not 100% fit.

  3. Alli on the move?published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

Former England and Arsenal defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

For some time Dele Alli hasn't been able to establish himself in the starting line-up for Tottenham or even made an impact as a substitute.

Whether or not his absence from the squad tells us anything today, we don't know, but he's not been in form or in favour for a very long time.

We've seen the last four managers come in at Spurs and Alli not play under them. He hasn't been able to recapture the form he showed in his first couple of seasons at Tottenham.

  4. 'We feel the excitement'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    Chelsea v Tottenham (16:30 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to Sky Sports, says: "It's a chance to bounce back. The result against Brighton always sticks with you.

"We feel well prepared although it's our third match in eight days. It's a derby, we feel the excitement.

"It is difficult to create chances against Tottenham since Antonio Conte came in.

"We want to create chances and bring the game to the opponent. Like always, with an Antonio Conte team, you face a hard fight.

  5. 'It showed how insanely good and how bad we can be'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC: "Massive. It is obviously January which is a tricky period for us historically - well at least during my time! You play without three players in Africa and a few others so we had a small group to get through this but the boys did incredible.

"It showed how insanely good we can be and how bad as well! For 35 minutes we were outstanding. We looked really sharp and ready to play in small spaces then two or three sloppy passes and the stadium is back, Palace is back and we did not start well in the second half. We had our moments but we did not control it any more. If you lose a little bit of focus it showed how tired we could be as Palace played a really good game. We opened the door for them and they ran through."

On the start: "It was really good. It was exceptionally good, that's true. Palace had a proper plan which didn't work at all because of us. If we are in a different moment - a bit more fresh maybe - and we could keep that going it would have been tough for Palace but we couldn't. I am more than happy with how we have gone through this January period."

On title chances: "No. The distance is too far to talk about it but we don't have to. We just need to win football matches. Each Premier Leauge game is difficult like we saw today. We made it more exciting than necessary! We will see what happens in the final few months."

  6. 'A small step'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche speaking to Match of the Day: "We will see in the bigger picture but it is another platform to restart. It is a small step because there is a lot of work to be done, but with three weeks without playing, the players have had little training, we are working with the group and trying to stay fit and well.

"We are looking to refind that edge, slow Arsenal down and find a format that will change the feel of the game - there were moments in the game if we had a bit more quality on the transition we might have nicked something, but we'll take the point.

"The main thing is physical because in isolation players can't do much. I was really pleased, the output was excellent. We have been trying to add quality and create chances but haven't found that balance, it was about being hard to beat, diligent and it got us a nice point."

On any transfers: "We believe in the players we have got, it is a challenge when you lose good players like Woody. If we can activate the market I am sure we will."

  7. 'It was Jekyll and Hyde football'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "It was a bit Jekyll and Hyde football today. You could see how good we can be. We were incredible in the first 35 minutes. Then after an intense week - away at Arsenal - I don't have any real explanation but the intensity might be one. We became sloppy in the last line. In the second half we were not compact, the first line pressed too high and the distance was not right. We played a high line and did not catch them offside which was our fault of course."

On Alisson: "I said to him now, thank you for saving our backside again. He said 'that's my job'. Of course it is very helpful to have a world-class goalkeeper at the back!"

On the third goal: "It was massive really. I didn't see it back but I don't think I have to because we thought it was and the referee did. The Crystal Palace people did not, which I understand. It was a big three points for us. An intense period so a little breather now which helps. Then we start again."

January results without Sadio Mane/Mo Salah and Naby Keita: "The important thing is we did it without them. It made it so intense. When you don't have that maximum speed on the wing that they have you obviously have to change in these areas. The boys did well to get on the scoresheet. The boys put a proper shift in and I'm more than pleased for that.

"It is very important! You try absolutely everything and you are not always superior or dominant but you need results. That's football. We did it the hard way but we did it. Crystal Palace are a really talented team, wow. We were really good in the first 35 minutes but we couldn't stay like this and we opened the door for them and they were more than ready to come through it. It makes the win even better because we worked so hard."

  8. 'We lacked quality in final third'published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Burnley

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Match of the Day: "We started slow, we looked leggy and didn't have enough rhythm or intention to attack the way we wanted. We started to play better, more rhythm and threat and came out in the second half completely different.

"We tried in every different way but lacked the quality in the final third. At the end, when we have a really low block, you need spark and creativity to win football matches and today we didn't do that.

"It is what they do, they want to play a slow game, it takes long, it is their game and you have to respect that.

"We need to start scoring goals and get back the players, the last four weeks it has been extremely difficult to put training sessions and squads together because of the amount of Covid and injuries."

On Arsenal's January transfer plans: "In this market things are complicated."

  9. 'Meat and drink for Burnley'published at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Burnley

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale: "I will give credit to Burnley, we know what they are about, it is frustrating from our behalf because we were putting balls into the box and that's meat and drink for Burnley.

"We didn't create that quality we needed. We are at the moment depleted and the lads have played a lot of minutes, I don't want to make any excuses. We have time to regroup now."

  10. Postpublished at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope says it was important for the Clarets to show a step in the right direction.

"Top drawer, blocks, headers out, lads really sticking together and showing real character."

That just about sums it up.

  11. 'We lose so I can't be happy'published at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace goalscorer Odsonne Edouard to Sky Sports: "We spoke together at half time and we knew we had 45 minutes to change the game. We tried to score the first one and after that we kept pushing.

"I think it was positive, especially the second half. We played well and were more aggressive and we scored.

"Yeah I scored but we lose so I can't be happy for this. I think we need to keep working and try to win the next game."

On the VAR decisions: "This is the decision of the referee. We can do nothing about this. We have to respect this and that's it."

  12. 'It was tough - down to us'published at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk to Sky Sports: "It was tough. Down to us more or less! In the second half we didn't win the right battles. We gave them a good feeling towards the end of the first half. In the end it was three points away from home. We knew it would be tough and it showed."

On his goal: "It was a very good corner from Andy Robertson. We practised a lot for this so important to finally get on the scoresheet again. I'm just happy to get the three points because it was a tough one."

On title hopes: "You can't deny it's in your mind but as we have said many times we take it game by game. It sounds a bit boring but it is like that. We arenot looking at them becaue there is no point. There are so many games to play. We focuson ourselves. This was a very important one. hopefully we can build on it after the break."

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: "It's nice to build on some good form. Filling in as part of that front three is nice to be able to do that and offer something in behind.

"After 35 minutes we dropped our standards a bit. Alisson has bailed us out a good few times in the past and today he had some moments. We haven't got anyone else we'd want other than him.

"When we went 2-0 up we didn't play as good as we know we need to. Sometimes you have to go through those periods and weather the storm."

  13. Penalty 'spoiled' the gamepublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I feel as though Diogo Jota goes to finish the chance, but he completely misses the ball and the momentum takes him towards Vicente Guaita with the ball then running out of play.

I can't understand how Kevin Friend gets called over to the monitor let alone gives the penalty decision. For me it spoiled a really good game of football but ultimately Liverpool controlled large parts of the game and deserved the result on the back of that.

Taking on Mark Lawrenson in this week's Premier League predictions is singer Call Me Loop, who is a Chelsea fan. AKA Georgia Buchanan, she grew up a Blue because of her dad, who's a season ticket-holder at Stamford Bridge.

"My dad started supporting Chelsea when he was about 10 because his best friend from school took him along," she told BBC Sport. "They used to take crates to stand on so they could see.

"In today's money, it cost them 10p to get in, and he was a Chelsea diehard from then on."

Chelsea's title challenge has faded in recent weeks but that has not affected Loop's opinion on Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed almost exactly a year ago.

"It's not the manager's fault that we have lost ground at the top of the table. I've got a real soft spot for Tuchel because he has been amazing since he arrived. Let's remember we are the European champions, so we have got to keep the faith there."

See how Lawro and Call Me Loop think the weekend's Premier League matches will go.

  15. Postpublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Burnley

Mikel Arteta will be really frustrated, his side completely dominated, but Arsenal were just so blunt in attack and resorted to throwing in crosses against an organised Burnley defence.

Alexandre Lacazette missed a great chance but the Gunners only managed five shots on target from 20 efforts, despite having 75% possession.

    Burnley will have enjoyed that.
