While Scotland's situation tonight was straight forward in terms of getting into the play-offs, securing a seeded place isn't.

Points and goals against bottom-of-the group Moldova don't count, meaning it's highly likely we will need something against high-flying Denmark to avoid a tough semi-final away from home.

A win at Hampden on Monday would wrap up a home tie against the likes of Ukraine or Romania, while hopefully swerving sides like Spain, Portugal and Croatia.

Remember, seeding doesn't apply for the final. Let's get there first, though.

Lenny: “...with a game to spare” - never in all my years do I remember this sentence being used with regard to the Scotland national team.

SAY IT AGAIN, LENNY. SAY IT AGAIN!

Up the young team! A win for the U21s tonight and I'll be starting to doubt whether pessimism should be associated with being Scottish.

Steve Clarke tells Sky Sports that Nathan Patterson's performance was a sign of his impressive development so far.

He said: "It was a performance of a young player who's going to develop into a really good player.

"Great finish on the goal, good link-up with John [McGinn] and a good finish with his left foot. Which, as a former right-back myself, I can recognise it's not something right-backs always do.

"The second goal saw Nathan involved again and John [McGinn] too and Che [Adams] was in the right place to get the second which made it more comfortable for us."

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a good performance on the night, aggressive going forward and trying to create chances.

"A lot of shots but only two goals. The penalty could have made it nervy but when you need him, Craig [Gordon] is always there. All focus is Denmark now.

[On five wins in a row]: "We put ourselves in a position where we probably had to win all five previous matches and credit to the payers, they've done that.

"This campaign isn't finished, we may need something on Monday to get seeded."

You can barely hear Scotland keeper Craig Gordon, the Tartan Army are still in fine voice.

He tells Sky Sports: "We deserved it. We played very well. We dictated for large spells.

"Today is a day for Scottish goalies to save penalties. It was exactly year ago today Marsh saved one in Serbia. It must be a good omen. It was my turn tonight."

Scotland wing-back Nathan Patterson tells Sky Sports he's "buzzing" with his night's work.

"It was a good team performance," he adds. "We've done well to get there [play-offs]. We started off well then we fell off.

"We needed a wee bit of composure and me and John [McGinn] linked up well."

David: That boy Patterson is a player good as Tierney. Surely he needs to push Tavernier out that Rangers team or the guy will look to move.

George: Craig Gordon has been absolutely immense this evening but a wonderful performance from the whole team! WELL DONE BOYS! You did our nation proud!
