There we have it then, a case of quality rather than quantity in terms of the EFL action, after a Covid-hit Boxing Day fixture programme.

Middlesbrough showed they are genuine contenders under Chris Wilder, with a slick and controlled performance in their win over Nottingham Forest, while Huddersfield were excellent with Sorba Thomas launching their comeback win over Blackpool.

There was defeat for Rotherham in League One, at Accrington who continue to impress, while Scunthorpe were the side smiling after a big six-pointer win over fellow League Two strugglers Oldham.

The best bit is we'll do it all again tomorrow. Derby-West Brom and QPR-Bournemouth. Join us then.

Until that time, good night and enjoy.

What a win for Huddersfield against a 10-man Blackpool, who struggled to hold on after Jordan Gabriel's dismissal in the second half.

Three goals in the opening 18 minutes had the visitors in front, with Jerry Yates and Gary Madine scoring either side of Danny Ward's header.

Tom Lees was withdrawn on a stretcher after a worrying delay through injury, and in the injury time spell Gabriel got his first yellow card, before seeing red in the second after a crude challenge on Lewis O'Brien.

The match winner in the event was winger Sorba Thomas, who scored twice in three minutes to turn the game and keep the Terriers right in the play-off mix.

    Sorba Thomas (84 mins)

    IT'S THE SORBA THOMAS SHOW.

The Wales winger scores his second goal in three minutes to hand Huddersfield the lead for the first time in the game.

The momentum has shifted completely. How will Jordan Gabriel be feeling now?!

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

What a win for Chris Wilder and Middlesbrough, who move into the Championship top-six with an impressive win over an in-form Nottingham Forest.

Ryan Yates' comedic own-goal will have had no-one in Garibaldi red laughing, and Andraz Sporar's effort was enough to seal it.

Only a second defeat for Steve Cooper's side in Forest spell, and they did have chances, but this is a disappointing loss.

    Sorba Thomas (80 mins)

    Huddersfield are level.

Sorba Thomas played a couple of one-twos to get himself into position, and then coolly fired his effort past Dan Grimshaw to square things up.

Blackpool were retreating and retreating as they sought to cling on after Jordan Gabriel's dismissal, but have been breached.

    It's all on now.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Standing ovation for Andraz Sporar, who makes way for Martin Payero in injury time.

Good finish for the Boro second earlier in the game.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Xande Silva strikes a post for Forest, as they come forward.

It was a great move which he actually started after winning a 50-50 with Matt Crooks in midfield.

Jack Colback got the ball on the left, rolled it back to Silva but his first-time effort cracking the upright and bounced out.

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

There's a brief delay while the stewards deal with a pitch invader.

Boro meanwhile have taken Isaiah Jones off, sparing Forest further torment.

The former Tooting and Mitcham man looks a classy prospect.

    Huddersfield 1-2 Blackpool

Blackpool still hold the advantage having switched things about at the back after Jordan Gabriel's dismissal.

There's far less adventure now, understandably.

Huddersfield have every reason to go for it.

  14. Postpublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Lovely bit of skill in midfield from Xande Silva forces Matt Crooks into a lunging challenge and a corner is eventually awarded to Forest.

However, the ball has barely made its way into a box before Boro win a free-kick. Criminal from the visitors to waste that chance.

  15. Postpublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Big of a scramble at the back for Boro, who smuggle the ball behind after Joe Lumley had fudged a clearance.

The resulting corner is claimed highest by Lumley, who was much more comfortable after that previous little wobble.

Rotherham's long unbeaten run may be coming to an end as Sean McConville has given Accrington the lead at the Wham Stadium with around 15 minutes left to play.

  17. League Two updatespublished at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

Scunthorpe have come from behind to lead Oldham 3-1 at Boundary Park. As it stands they would be off the bottom of the EFL, leapfrogging the Latics in the process.

It's a Christmas cracker at the One Call Stadium with Mansfield scoring three goals in a little over 10 minutes to come from behind to lead Hartlepool 3-2.

George Maris has been credited with giving the Stags the lead at a very foggy One Call Stadium.

Tranmere are still leading 1-0 at home to Barrow.

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Forest's only defeat before today (as it stands) was a 4-0 home loss against a ruthless Fulham side.

This is the first time they've truly been outplayed though. Boro and Chris Wilder have won the tactical battle. Control in midfield, coolness at the back, great dangerous width and sharp finishing.

  19. League One updatespublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

MK Dons have pulled a goal back away to Lincoln.

Leaders Rotherham are still being held to a goalless draw away to Accrington.

Shrewsbury appear to be well on their way to their first away win of the season, having extended their lead at Fleetwood as too have Plymouth away to Cheltenham.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Huddersfield 1-2 Blackpool

Jordan Rhodes has the ball in the net, but the referee's assistant has a flag up. Ruled out.

The Huddersfield striker has just come on and has had his sighter now.
