Well, that was an action-packed Championship Sunday.

A five-goal thriller including a hat-trick at Ashton Gate, an impressive win on the road for QPR, nine-man West Brom held by 10-man Cardiff and a share of the spoils for top-six rivals Blackburn and Huddersfield in the Lancashire rain.

We hope you've enjoyed it and can join us again tomorrow for Reading versus Derby and Stoke's home game with Preston.

  2. League One latestpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

Morecambe 1-3 Doncaster, Shrewsbury 1-0 Sheff Wed

Before we go here's the latest in the day's two League One games, which kicked off at 15:00 GMT.

Morecambe have pulled one back against bottom side Doncaster, through Cole Stockton, but it's still a long way back against their relegation rivals.

And Matthew Pennington's goal has Shrewsbury 1-0 up against play-off chasers Sheffield Wednesday.

There's still a while left in those matches. You can track the scores here.

    Championship

    Bottom six

Cardiff's point at West Brom sees them move four points off the relegation places, although it's still pretty congested down there.

Derby can reduce their arrears in tomorrow's game against Reading, while Barnsley and Peterborough's matches against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth respectively, have been called off.

    Championship

    Top six in Champ

Good days for Blackburn, who at least temporarily go top two with their point against play-off chasers Huddersfield, and QPR, who both jump up in the table.

West Brom's point keeps them in the hunt too.

  5. A costly afternoon for the Baggiespublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    West Brom 1-1 Cardiff

West Brom remain unbeaten at home, but a draw at home to 20th placed Cardiff will be seen as two points dropped and it is a result that won't have Fulham and Bournemouth overly worried.

And sendings off for key men Alex Mowatt and Sam Johnstone will not help their cause, either, especially if they get three-match bans.

A good point to start the year for Steve Morison's Bluebirds, though.

  6. More of the same on the roadpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Birmingham 1-2 QPR

It was 12 Championship wins on the road in 2021 for QPR and they have begun the new year with another thanks to Albert Adomah and Chris Willock's goals.

Mark Warburton's side are right in the mix for the play-offs this season. And they are only five points off the top two as well if they have a real charge.

It is now one win in eight for Lee Bowyer's Birmingham. They need January reinforcements.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield

Blackburn miss out on the chance to match their 1994-95 achievements of winning seven games in a row, as they're held by Huddersfield at Ewood Park.

Reda Khadra hit the bar, while Levi Colwill and Lee Nicholls made some massive saves to deny Rovers.

At the other end, Thomas Kaminski made two crucial first-half stops to deny Duane Holmes and Danel Sinani.

Blackburn leap into the automatic places, going second. Huddersfield stay sixth.

Levi Colwill makes a huge block on Sam Gallagher as Blackburn push forward.

Huddersfield somehow are clinging onto parity. Then Lee Nicholls has to race out to clear a loose pass at the back.

    Nervy times.

Lee Nicholls sees the ball into his grasp after Ben Brereton Diaz cuts back from the byline, as Blackburn press in the final minute of normal time.

Four added minutes. Will we see a winner at Ewood?

    FT: West Brom 1-1 Cardiff

Drama right at the death at The Hawthorns.

With literally the last kick of the game, West Brom thought they should have had a penalty when Conor Townsend appeared to be hauled down in the box.

That was not given and the referee blew for full time. Manager Valerien Ismael ran onto the pitch and was held back by a Cardiff player, but it sparked a melee involving both sets of players.

Eventually Thomas Bramall produced red cards for Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and Bluebirds centre half Aden Flint.

Both sides may not have heard the last of this. Expect a letter from The FA in the next few days!

    Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield

Blackburn come so close as Sam Gallagher directs his header at goal from a Joe Rothwell corner, but it's swiped off the line by a desperate Terriers side.

Sorba Thomas has been Huddersfield hero in attack of late but his defensive mettle was shown here.

Frustrations aplenty for Huddersfield, and Duane Holmes sees yellow for a challenge on Tyrhys Dolan in the Rovers.

Tayo Edun comes on for Harry Pickering as Rovers shuffle the pack.

Town meanwhile bring on ex-Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes for Josh Koroma and Scott High makes way for Ollie Turton.

    West Brom 1-1 Cardiff

It would be a good one to win from here for 10-man West Brom.

Mowatt's dismissal prompted Valerien Ismael to replace goalscorer Callum Robinson with Jayson Molumby.
