Rip-snorting game at Ashton Gate as Bristol City go ahead, go behind and then roar back to win in their first game of 2022 thanks to Andi Weimann's hat-trick.

Weimann capitalised on a shoddy clearance from Bartosz Bialkowski to put the hosts ahead, but a two-goal salvo from Tom Bradshaw and Benik Afobe gave Millwall a half-time lead they deserved from a fine first 45.

Bristol City changed it up after the break with Chris Martin and Han Noah Massengo coming on, and they looked more balanced, effective and positive, and got their reward when Weimann headed in an equaliser and then thrashed home after a scramble for the winner.

It's a first win in four for City, while it's three straight away defeats for Millwall.

    Bristol City 3-2 Millwall

Into added time and Millwall are still throwing shots at Bristol City.

George Saville slipped the ball wide to Scott Malone, but his ball in to Benik Afobe sees the ball break off his studs and away from goal.

The home side are being stretched.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has been given a booking for his protests at the refereeing of Keith Stroud.

He joins defender Lewis Travers in the book.

    Bristol City 3-2 Millwall

Tom Bradshaw launches himself at a George Evans centre, and just for a flicker of a second it looks like it's buried in the back of the net.

However, the Millwall striker's connection merely ripples the side netting.

Unsurprisingly, Max O'Leary takes his time with the goal-kick. Almost in added time.

    Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield

Blackburn's Ben Brereton Diaz didn't have a lot go against him in 2021 did he? With his 24 league goals across the calendar year.

However, he's just been denied a penalty in 2022, having gone shoulder to shoulder with a Huddersfield defender and gone down.

    Nothing doing, despite the appeals.

What a finish we're having here!

Bristol City, having survived a Millwall raid at one end, are now in front amid a real scramble in the Millwall box.

The ball was played in, it pinballed around as Millwall players dived desperately to keep it out, Alex Scott looked set to score, but as the rebound broke to Andreas Weimann, he thrashed it in for his treble.

    Bedlam for the Bristolians.

    Bristol City 2-2 Millwall

Millwall slip a ball over the top which the movement of Tom Bradshaw helps him ghost onto, but his attempt to bring Murray Wallace into play is denied by Bristol City pressure.

We've had a flurry of free-kicks. Some fatigue perhaps, as Covid cases across the game have brought a fair few fringe players into the mix. Testing squad depth.

    Birmingham 0-1 QPR

Nervy moments for Birmingham and Matija Sarkic as he spills Andre Gray's effort and Dion Sanderson throws himself in the way of Luke Amos as he tries to get to the rebound first.

A second QPR goal feels more likely than a Birmingham equaliser at the moment.

  11. CLOSE!published at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield

Great chance for Huddersfield, in their toothpaste tube-style mint and grey away kit.

The ball into the box from the left by Harry Toffolo was perfection, and the stooping header by Duane Holmes is saved point-blank by Thomas Kaminski.

What a stop, and what a move. Lovely sequence.

Birmingham try to respond and Jordan James is involved again. This time, his cross is deflected into the path of Gary Gardner, but he drags his effort wide.

    James Collins (34 mins)

This was not in the script for West Brom!

A corner is swung in and James Collins gets free of his marker and guides an excellent header past Sam Johnstone into the far corner.

Only a second Cardiff goal for the ex-Luton striker, who is rightfully delighted.

    Andreas Weimann

It had been looming that one. Bristol City's extra verve and swagger in this second half pays off as Andreas Weimann attacks a perfect cross from Han Noah Massengo and steers the ball past Bartosz Bialkowski for his second of the game.

Ashton Gate lifts in a cacophony of noise and the home support are back on it.

Millwall were undone by real class.

    Bristol City 1-2 Millwall

Millwall launch the ball into the box through Billy Mitchell's long throw, but George Saville's attempt to volley the bobbling ball scuffs wildly, almost for a throw.

Not one he'll want to add to his YouTube highlights reel.

With Bournemouth and Fulham not playing tomorrow, this is a crucial game for West Brom and Valerien Ismael.

They really need three points to get within striking distance of those two, but it's not quite happening just yet.

  17. Postpublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield

Tricky conditions under foot at Ewood Park, despite the best efforts of the ground staff who have worked over time to get the game on.

Huddersfield's Duane Holmes got his feet caught up on the gloopy surface, as the Terriers sought to break.

    Birmingham 0-1 QPR

QPR look full of confidence after Adomah's goal and Jimmy Dunne has a header clawed away at a corner by Matija Sarkic in the Blues goal.

They can maybe sense that three points are really up for grabs this afternoon.

    Bristol City 1-2 Millwall

Bristol City not being quite so overpowered in midfield now, and Han Noah Massengo shows his ability to mix it by winning a 50-50 with George Saville and powering on.

He initially slipped a pass to Chris Martin in the penalty area, but the striker turned and played it back to the midfielder, who skidded a low shot which Bartosz Bialkowski got down easily to save.

Callum O'Dowda then puts a ball into the box and Millwall have to put it behind eventually to regroup.

    Better from the hosts.

Having earlier created a chance for John Buckley, this time Reda Khadra gets a shot away of his own, and raps the crossbar.

    Blackburn Rovers starting with intent.
