    Mohamed Salah and Trezeguet

Mohamed Salah scored one goal and set up the other as Egypt beat Morocco in extra time in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Sofiane Boufal gave Morocco an early lead with a penalty after Ayman Ashraf caught Achraf Hakimi, a decision given by the video assistant referee.

But Salah tapped in an equaliser after Yassine Bounou parried a header and the game went to extra time.

Liverpool's Salah squared for Aston Villa's Trezeguet to tap in a winner. Carlos Queiroz's side will face hosts Cameroon in Thursday's semi-final.

The seven-time champions may need to play that game with third-choice keeper Mohamed Sobhi, who came on for his international debut after Mohamed Abo Gabal hurt himself while tipping Nayef Aguerd's header on to the bar near the end of normal time.

  3. Senegal v Equatorial Guinea still to come

Mohammed: Deserved Egypt win. Not as talented as their previous champions but hardworking and clever enough to get results against quality opponents.

KojoBentil: Mo Salah the scorer and the goal provider. The best in the world.

  5. Post update

    FT: Egypt 2-1 Morocco (AET)

With Egypt advancing to the semi-finals, it does mean Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah for their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Cardiff on 6 February - the day of both the Afcon final and third-fourth play-off.

But with Morocco exiting the tournament, Adam Masina and Imran Louza will be available for Watford's Premier League game at Burnley on 5 February, while Romain Saiss and Ilias Chair can play in their FA Cup games for Wolves and QPR respectively.

The crowd went wild after that free-kick was dealt with and it looked like Mo Salah would score the third - he is then subbed off so that he accept the accolades of the crowd.

The Egyptians celebrate and the Moroccans fall to the ground!

  15. A repeat of the 2017 final?

    Nick Cavell

    BBC Africa Sport in Cameroon

We are heading for a repeat of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final in Thursday's semi-final with Egypt against Cameroon.

On that day the Pharaohs took the lead but the Indomitable Lions fought back to win - with this tournament's leading scorer Vincent Aboubakar scoring the winner in the 88th minute.

Jared Maobe: You look at the Morocco team today, this is the kind of game that Hakim Ziyech could have really helped them. But their coach had different ideas.

  18. Post update

    Egypt 2-1 Morocco

Morocco, as you would expect, are pushing men forward. They need to, and need a moment of skill or luck or they're falling at the quarter-final hurdle.

Cameroon sit and wait to see who they will meet in Thursday's semi-final.

  19. Post update

    Egypt 2-1 Morocco

Morocco have 10 minutes to find the goal that could take us into a penalty shootout. Sofyan Amrabat tries his luck from distance, but it's a complete waste.

There's some hands on heads on the Morocco bench.
