But that save from Mohamed Abo Gabal has caused him some harm. He needs some attention and the resulting stretches suggest he may have pulled a muscle in the groin / thigh area.

Remember, Abo Gabal came in after first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy injured himself late in the match against Ivory Coast in the last 16.

Mohamed Sobhi and Mahmoud Gad are Egypt's other goalkeepers available if they need one of them.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 82 mins

    Egypt 1-1 Morocco

Morocco so close to regaining their lead.

It's a header at goal from Nayef Aguerd on the six-yard line and it's brilliant reflexes from Mohamed Abo Gabal who springs himself in the air and pushes the ball on to the crossbar and it bounces clear.

Ten minutes to go of normal time. If we don't get a goal, it will be on to extra time.

That skirmish had come just after Morocco had a free-kick to the right of the penalty area and Munir El Haddadi struck at goal but the ball was punched away by Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abo Gabal.

It's getting very silly out there. There's a bust-up involving pretty much everyone. Lots of shoving, lots of pushing, not too much control.

It all started with Achraf Hakimi grabbing the shirt of Mostafa Mohamed who squared up to the Morocco man and it was a bit of a free-for-all after that.

Yellow for Hakimi, yellow for Mohamed.

Everyone else told to calm down and get on with it.

Morocco's Munir El Haddadi is one of the reasons behind Fifa's most recent rule change on international eligibility - which now means if you are under 21 you can play up to three competitve games and still swap national allegiances.

Under the previous regulation El Haddadi's 14-minute appearance for Spain as a substitute in a European qualifier had ended any chance of him swapping to Morocco, where his father is from.

Mohamed Abdelmonem of Egypt goes down holding his face. Hard to see why. There was nothing there. Romain Saiss was the nearest man to him, but hadn't done much wrong.

Every time Mohamed Salah gets the ball, there is the expectation that he could create a chance.

Adam Masina, the Watford full-back, knows all about the Liverpool man and he is one of the Morocco defenders desperately trying to stop him.

    Egypt 1-1 Morocco

Morocco reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2004, losing 2-1 to hosts Tunisia, but that has been the only time they have made the semi-finals since they finished fourth in both 1986 and 1988.

They have also been in the final four in 1980 when they came third, and won the tournament for the only time in 1976.

Can they get into the semi-finals here? As it stands, we're heading to extra time and maybe penalties.

Brilliant from Wolves defender and Morocco captain Romain Saiss to keep it at 1-1.

Egypt's Omar Marmoush, racing on to a long ball forward, is just about to strike at goal before Saiss comes from nowhere, slides in and wins the ball cleanly.

    Top-class defending from Saiss.

As soon as Mohamed Salah started on the right wing in front of the several hundred Egypt fans the noise increased and the atmosphere changed.

That seemed to transfer first to Salah and then the rest of the team - his moments of trickery on the edge of the area gave his team confidence and even though the goal was a little normal for Salah it could provide a spark for the whole team.

    It had to be him!

Mohamed Salah is Egypt's hero as he is in the right place to convert a rebound from close range after Mohamed Abdelmonem's diving header from a corner had been parried by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

    Game on!

  14. CLOSE!published at 50 mins

    Egypt 0-1 Morocco

Trezeguet has only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes and nearly makes an instant impact.

It's great play from Mohamed Salah on the edge of the penalty area as he is surrounded by three defenders but can still find Trezeguet and the Villa man takes a touch to set himself and fires at goal with his second. Just wide.

We're back under way for the second half. If there's no more goals it'll be Morocco who face Cameroon in the semi-finals.

We will have extra time though if Egypt can find an equaliser and it ends level at 90 minutes.

  17. Burkina Faso into semi-finals after shocking Tunisiapublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2022

    Burkina Faso 1-0 Tunisia

Teenager Dango Ouattara scored the only goal and was sent off as Burkina Faso surprised Tunisia to reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Ouattara, 19, ran onto Blati Toure's through-ball and held off two defenders and cut inside before firing in. But he was then sent off in the 82nd minute for an elbow on Ali Maaloul.

The Stallions, who have never won the tournament, will meet the winner of Sunday's BBC Two game between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea (19:00 GMT).

But they will be without Ouattara, now suspended after his late dismissal. It came after referee Joshua Bondo's second trip to the monitor for a video assistant referee check in quick succession.

Minutes earlier, Tunisia were denied a penalty as Soumaila Ouattara caught Wahbi Khazri with a high tackle in the box after initially winning the ball.

    The Gambia 0-2 Cameroon

Karl Toko Ekambi scored two second-half goals as hosts Cameroon beat The Gambia to move into the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Toko Ekambi headed his country ahead in the 50th minute, glancing in from Collins Fai's right-wing cross.

It became 2-0 seven minutes later with Toko Ekambi finishing at the back post following Martin Hongla's low delivery.

Cameroon will play either Egypt or Morocco in the semi-final on Thursday, with the final next Sunday.

    Egypt 0-1 Morocco

    Nick Cavell

Egypt managed to regroup a little, on the pitch at least, after the early setback of conceding that goal from the penalty spot.

The Pharaohs managed to push forward and created some chances from distance and set pieces. On the sidelines the coaching staff were arguing nearly every decision and doing it vehemently and the fourth official was a busy man.

Morocco are happy with their lead and are happy to rely on their solid defence and look for a second on the counter attack.
