The game has gone through spells of chances being created in abundance but the only goal of the evening came out of the blue for Accies.

Tomi Adeloye misses another sitter. The ball is cut back to him three yards from goal and he fails to connect with the ball for a certain goal.

Accies defender Keiran MacDonald looks like he did well to stay alert, not give up, and disrupt Adeloye's attempt.

Out of nowhere, Hamilton begin to pepper the Ayr United goal.

A deep cross from Keiran MacDonald forces a save from a David Moyo header. The ball falls to Lewis Smith, who smashes it home from close range for his fourth goal of the season.

Chances are scarce again as both sides struggle to get any real possession in what is now very much a stop-start affair due to a few injuries and fouls.

On a knife edge, evenly contested, anyone's game - pick your footballing cliché here.

Michael Moffat latches on to a pass in behind from Daire O'Connor, who expertly rolled his man on the counter-attack.

Moffat squandered his chance in the end, rifling his shot off a defender and failing to hit the target.

It's not hard to see why both of these sides have the worst defensive records in the league so far.

Marley Redfern is given the freedom of South Ayrshire as he drives to the edge of the Ayr United box from the halfway line without anyone pressuring him whatsoever. His shot ends up fizzing wide.

Not that they're prolific scorers either mind you...

After Hamilton's frantic start they now seem incapable of breaking out of their own half.

Ayr have recovered from the early spell well and are now looking dangerous when they go forward.

Moments after his initial header, the ball falls to Tomi Adeloye in the box and his side-footed effort crashes off the underside of the bar.

He has to score that.

Tomi Adeloye breaks free from his marker at a corner and directs his header towards goal. Hamilton keeper Joe Hilton was equal to the attempt and palmed it around the post.

First real chance of the evening so far.

Scrappy may be the best word to illustrate how the game has played out so far.

James Maxwell drives forward for Ayr and wins a free-kick in a promising area but the subsequent attempt is met square in the face by Mihai Popescu.

Accies try to keep their early momentum going with a few neat passes down their left flank before the ball goes out for an Ayr throw-in.

No real chances of note for either team so far, however.

Hamilton look determined to get off to a flying start as they win a corner with only seconds on the clock.

A few throw-ins in the corner then lead to a Lewis Smith cross being dangerously whipped in.

Good early pressure from Accies.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Hamilton manager Stuart Taylor has said: "We're looking to go and try to build momentum from last week.

"We want to take confidence from every game, put the performances in and try to get the right result.
