  3. Courts 'proud' of young United playerspublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Dundee United

Dundee United head coach Thomas Courts tells BBC Sportsound he "really enjoyed" watching his young players despite their narrow defeat by Premiership leaders Rangers.

"You have a few different scenarios playing out in your head before the game," he says. "The performance and result can sometimes spiral, but they really represented the club fantastically well in what's been a really tough week.

"I'm really proud of them. Barring a penalty incident, I don't think there was too much in the game.

"They really have to take a big stride forward and experience this on a regular basis."

  4. McPake 'proud' and 'devastated' after Dundee losspublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

FT: Dundee 0-1 Heart of Midlothian

Dundee manager James McPake tells BBC Scotland that, despite their fourth defeat in a row: "My first thought is pride, the way that group have handled the last couple of days.

"Max Anderson couldn't train the last couple of days, he was a close contact and had to wait for a negative PCR test.

"They gave everything, we had 11 players who put their bodies on the line.

"It's a game we're devastated we've lost. I'm devastated for the players because they deserved something from that game."

  5. Alexander hails 'fantastic finishes'published at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Motherwell 2-0 St Johnstone

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander says they always had to remain "wary" of St Johnstone.

“We were always wary of St Johnstone’s threats," he tells BBC Scotland. "They’re going through a tough patch, but they’re a good team with a very good manager.

"We always had to be on top of our game all the way. Even a 2-0 with five minutes to go I’ve seen it change before."

On his side's performance, he adds: “We scored at great times with two fantastic finishes. It was a really professional performance from my team."

  6. 'I'm really proud' - County boss Mackaypublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Livingston 1-1 Ross County

Ross County manager Malky Mackay is fairly pleased with a point despite conceding another late goal.

"I don't think anyone finds it easy coming here," he tells BBC Scotland. "I don't think we've won here for eight or nine years.

"Disappointed it's the last minute again, but they've come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season and I'm really proud of them at the moment, the way we're playing."

  7. Wright sacked as Killie bosspublished at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Kilmarnock A-A Dunfermline Athletic

A bad day - and clear your office - for Tommy Wright as he has just been sacked as Kilmarnock manager.

It comes shortly after his side relinquished an early lead at home to Dunfermline before the game was abandoned because of fog after only 64 minutes.

Killie, promotion favourites at the start of the season, fell out of the play-off places to fifth, five points behind Arbroath, Inverness and Raith Rovers.

It means half the clubs in the Championship have been sacked this season.

  8. 'I told big Ayo to stay up front'published at 17:38 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Livingston 1-1 Ross County

Livingston manager David Martindale's decision to keep centre-back Ayo Obileye up top proved decisive.

"We'd actually moved Ayo up front," he tells BBC Scotland.

"We'd had a set play before the goal and I said to big Ayo 'just stay up front'.

"I think we dominated large spells in the game. At 1-0, Ross County caught us on the counter a few times.

"I thought we started the second half very well. Over the piece, I think it was a fair result. First half, not great. Second half, I thought we were better and deserved the equaliser."

  9. 'We were bullied' - Davidsonpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    FT: Motherwell 2-0 St Johnstone

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson says he takes "responsibility" for where his side find themselves in the league - bottom.

"I thought we got bullied", he tells BBC Scotland. "First half, it was probably fairly even, we lost a bad goal from the second phase of the cross and we’re disappointed with the reaction to it.

"One of the biggest disappointments was probably the energy levels and desire when we went a goal down. Losing the second goal at such a poor time was another disappointment too.

"At the moment, we’re not competing well enough basically and I take the brunt of the responsibility for that. It’s something I’ve got to look at. It’s my responsibility, I take it on the chin. I won’t make any excuses."

  10. Kingsley 'probably needs x-ray'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

FT: Dundee 0-1 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson is pleased with his side's win at Dens Park but concerned about an injury to influential left-back Stephen Kingsley, describing the tackle on him as "very, very bad".

"Stephen's now in a boot," he tells BBC Scotland. "That rattled both teams and it took a while for it to settle.

"He's quite bad. He'll probably need to get it x-rayed. I don't think the boy meant it, but it's the follow through that comes up and sort of smashes his leg. So we'll just need to see how he is."

Neilson praised midfield substitutes Aaron McEnff and Jamie Walker and said it "changed the game".

    Scottish Championship

What a story in the Championship, where manager Dick Campbell watched the game from home as his Arbroath part-timers went to the top of the table after a win over bottom side Morton.

That was made possible by Inverness Caley Thistle squandering a lead before losing at home to Hamilton, while second top Raith Rovers lost away to Partick Thistle.

  14. Advantage Rangers and Heartspublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    Scottish Premiership

It wasn't pretty and United took most of the plaudits, but Rangers manage to move seven points clear of Celtic at the top of the Premiership thanks to James Tavernier's penalty kick.

Hearts narrow the gap on Celtic, also with a 1-0 scoreline, away to Dundee to leave as the city's two sides both suffer a fourth consecutive defeat.

St Johnstone are one point adrift at the bottom after losing to Motherwell as Ross County settled for a point away to Livingston.

Strikes from Dean Cornelius and Kevin van Veen secured all three points for Motherwell and further compounded St Johnstone's misery.

Saints struggled to create anything going forward and are now without a win in six games, leaving them one point adrift at the bottom of the table.

  18. FULL-TIME Dundee 0-1 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

Jamie Walker's goal ensured Hearts remain clear in third place in the Scottish Premiership after they overcame a depleted Dundee at Dens.

Robbie Neilson's side made hard work of beating a team missing a glut of first-team players, but Walker latched onto a rebound deep into the second half after Aaron McEneff's deflected shot had hit a post.

It was Dundee's fourth defeat in a row, with second-bottom Ross County closing the gap to within a point, with they and St Johnstone having a game in hand.

Hearts remain six-points clear in third after their third win in six games.
