    Hibernian 0-0 Celtic

How did that not end up in the net?

A powerful low drive from Celtic left-back Greg Taylor is spilled by Matt Macey, the goalkeeper recovers to get a hand to Liel Abada's follow-up and, as the winger looks to touch it into the net, in comes Hibs centre-half Paul Hanlon to hook off the line.

The flag was up for offside against the Israeli winger, but Hanlon was not to know that.

    Quote Message

Tom Rogic's ability on the half-turn is incredible. He shows incredible strength to shield the ball. He's got great end product to go with it too

  5. 'Inverted full-backs a problem for Hibs'published at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian 0-0 Celtic

    Kenny Miller
    Former Hibernian and Celtic striker

    Quote Message

You can see the problems Celtic's inverted full-backs are causing already. Newell gets attracted inside, that frees up Turnbull - and Rogic is in behind. It's a really interesting ploy Ange Postecoglou has used since coming to Celtic and it's already working today

  6. Postpublished at 5mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Celtic

After a quick, Martin Boyle-inspired sojourn into the Celtic half, Hibs are being pinned back early.

A cross into their penalty box causes a bit of panic, is headed on by Mikey Johnston and goalkeeper Matt Macey has to reach above Kyogo Furuhashi to punch clear and gather at the second attempt.

  7. 'Boyle needs to be right on it today'published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian 0-0 Celtic

    Stephen Craigan
Former Motherwell defender on Premier Sports

    Quote Message

Martin Boyle is vitally important. He hasn't scored since the semi-final and it's no coincidence Hibs' form has dropped off since. He needs to be right on it today if Hibs are to win

Is it to be victory for managerless Hibs, or a first silverware as Celtic boss for Ange Postecoglou?

  15. How Celtic reached Hampdenpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian v Celtic (15:00)

Celtic avenged their opening Premiership defeat to Hearts by beating the Tynecastle men 3-2 at Parkhead before swatting aside Championship visitors Raith Rovers 3-0.

The semi-final against League Cup holders St Johnstone was a tighter affair.

But James Forrest, who misses out today, came off the bench to score the only goal on an emotional night at Hampden as fans paid tribute to Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld, who had died days earlier.

  16. Hibs' route to the finalpublished at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian v Celtic (15:00)

Due to their European involvement, both sides started their League Cup campaign at the last-16 stage.

Hibs strode past second-tier Kilmarnock 2-0 at home, then dispatched Premiership rivals Dundee United 3-1 on Tayside to set up a colossal semi-final against Rangers.

Martin Boyle revelled in the Hampden limelight, with the Australia international's stunning first-half hat-trick firing Hibs to a 3-1 win in Rangers' first game since manager Steven Gerrard's departure to Aston Villa.

  17. Can December be significant for Hibs?published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian v Celtic (15:00)

Celtic are unbeaten in 11 games against Hibs across all competitions, five of them draws, and won their only previous meeting this season - 3-1 at Easter Road in the Premiership in October.

Hibs' last victory did come in December, beating Celtic 2-0 in Leith back in 2018.

  19. 'Not just another game'published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian v Celtic (15:00)

This is Ange Postecoglou's first chance of silverware since taking over as Celtic manager this summer and he has brought a feelgood factor back to the Glasgow club, who ended last season without a trophy for the first in time in 11 years.

He is no stranger to winning trophies, having won cup finals both with South Melbourne and Australia.

Indeed, the 56-year-old Aussie was quoted in the Sunday newspapers saying that, in his experience, the best message to his players is not to take pressure off by saying that this is just another game - but emphasising that this is a special occasion to savour.

  20. Celtic back in familiar groove?published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Hibernian v Celtic (15:00)

Despite having lifted the League Cup 19 times, Celtic still trail city rivals Rangers' total of 27, but in recent seasons they have made it very much their own.

St Johnstone's triumph last season ended the Parkhead club's four-year strangehold on the trophy.

In contrast, Hibs' third and last League Cup triumph came back in 2007, when they thumped Kilmarnock 5-1.
