    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Mirren

    Cammy Bell
    Former Rangers goalkeeper on Sportsound

    Quote Message

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has not changed too much. He understood that Rangers were in a good place but maybe hadn't been playing quite as well as last season. He's just been tweaking things and over time he'll change more. A fresh voice has probably given the players a boost

  3. 'Hibs too quick and strong for United'published at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Dundee United 1-3 Hibernian

    Kris Doolan
Former Partick Thistle striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

You could see Hibs had a clear game plan. Shaun Maloney has implemented a style of play already and he's hit the ground running in terms of results. Hibs were too quick and strong for Dundee United

  4. Van Bronckhorst pleased with 'controlled' Rangers winpublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Mirren

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst tells RangersTV: "I'm very pleased. I'm happy with the performance, it was very controlled.

"We created a lot of chances. The scoreline needs to be more when you see the chances we created. But we can go into the break in the place we want. We'll have a good rest and start over again.

"The movements and the passing was good. We could've scored more but the intention was there to keep going and create chances."

  5. 'Ross County need to be more assertive'published at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Ross County

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Scotland: "We started too slowly and we can't allow a good team like Hearts to do that, so we gave ourselves a mountain to climb, we weren't at it, and by half-time Hearts could have been out of sight.

"We needed to be more assertive. I thought in the second half we really came out and pushed, I think we had 14 chances to three, and I don't know how the ball has not gone in for the equaliser."

  6. Aberdeen 'got what they deserved'published at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Aberdeen 2-1 Dundee

Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass tells BBC Scotland: "Very hard earned. The boys showed the resilience that they've showed a lot recently.

"They dug it out and did what they needed to do. We got a goal back pretty quick

"Second half, we were pushing, we were the ones that were looking like we would get a winner. The boys got what they deserved."

  7. 'Rangers reinvigorated'published at 17:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Mirren

Dare I say, Steven Gerrard's move has actually benefitted Rangers. Giovanni van Bronckhorst seems to have reinvigorated the team

  8. Champions in ominous formpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Mirren

Rangers go into the winter break six points clear at the top of the Premiership and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has made a very impressive start to life in the Ibrox dugout.

That's nine league wins on the bounce for the champions and it's been 600 minutes since they last conceded a goal.

  9. 'Nisbet sensational for Hibs'published at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Dundee United 1-3 Hibernian

    Brian Rice
Former Hamilton Academical manager on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

Hibs weren't under much pressure today. The wing-backs were able to play so high up the park and Kevin Nisbet was sensational, with his link up play and he got himself a goal

  10. 'Lack of crowd affected Hearts'published at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Ross County

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson tells BBC Scotland: "The game really reflected last season with no fans. We started really well, got comfortable, got a couple of goals, but because there's no atmosphere here to drive us on the game became a bit flat.

"Hopefully the winter break allows everything to clear up because when it's full Tynecastle is the best place in the world to play."

  11. 'Motherwell took their chances and we never' - Martindalepublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Motherwell 2-1 Livingston

Livingston manager David Martindale reckons his side dominated enough of the ball to take something from the game today.

“We dominated possession slightly more," he said. "But, Motherwell took their chances and we never.

“We gave away a really cheap free-kick in the first half, they score from that and it was half-decent free-kick

“We’ve got do to more to stop the cross for their second goal, at 2-0 we had a couple of counter-attacks and then we did get a goal back but it was probably too late

“There wasn’t really that much in the game, we probably had a similar number of shots on target, they took their chances more than ourselves.

On his side's lack of attacking threat, he added: “We lacked a bit of cutting-edge upfront but that’s probably testament more to Motherwell’s defence rather than our attackers. Motherwell defended narrow and defended their box well, we didn’t have possession in areas from where you can hurt the opposition often enough."

  12. Dundee gave McPake 'everything'published at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Aberdeen 2-1 Dundee

Dundee manager James McPake, who was incredibly frustrated that a request for a postponement was turned down this morning, tells BBC Scotland: "They put up a performance against a good Aberdeen side.

"I can't fault them in any way, shape or form. They gave me everything. The fighting spirit's there. They deserve the break.

"The two disappointing things in the game are the (Aberdeen goals).

"A lot happened to us this morning. There's an overwhelming feeling of pride but also something's not quite right."

  13. Maloney satisfied with start at Hibspublished at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Dundee United 1-3 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach Shaun Maloney: "Yeah, very pleased. I couldn't have asked the players for a better start. Some of these players have had two sessions, some of them have had four so they can take real credit from the last couple of games.

"I think our defensive players were exceptional. I was really impressed with the first half, to have that amount of possession and shots, and the way we played. It was just a shame there were no supporters here."

Hibs stay fifth, two points behind Motherwell, with Maloney making it two wins from two.

  14. Courts remains upbeat after five defeats on the trotpublished at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Dundee United 1-3 Hibernian

Dundee United had 14 players missing and ended with 10 men when Charlie Mulgrew went off injured immediately after they had made a third substitution. They have now lost five in a row and drop out of the top six for the first time since the second week of the season.

"Our young players are getting valuable experience but in the first half we struggled to get close to Hibs," says manager Thomas Courts.

"The boys took on the information for the second half and we made more contact, got on the front foot. We managed a few nice passages of play but the game plan at the moment is to stay in games and it doesn't help when you fall behind to a dubious opener.

"Ryan Edwards (a late withdrawal) had to attend to a personal situation and goes with our best wishes.

"It seems like every obstacle that could be put in our way has been put in our way. But there's a lot to be positive about, with players returning. In the next week we should have a clean bill of health."

  15. 'Van Veen is a match-winner'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Motherwell 2-1 Livingston

Assistant manager Chris Lucketti was pleased Motherwell kept their momentum going ahead of the winter break, thanks to a double from Kevin van Veen.

“We got the result we all wanted,” he tells BBC Scotland. “Momentum is massive and we’ve certainly got that at home at the moment so it was great to finish off the year like that at home.

“We knew it would be tough against a good side who had really picked up some form lately, so it was a great three points.

“Kevin is capable of those match-defining moments. He’s a top player and a special finisher."

On speculation surrounding Tony Watt’s future, who did not come off the bench this afternoon, he added: “We’ll see what happens with Tony, we just concentrated on the lads that could help us get three points this afternoon and the boys did that great.

“At the moment it’s hard to say, who knows what the month will bring. While Tony’s here I’m sure he’ll give everything to the cause.”

    FT: Hamilton 2-3 Kilmarnock

We've given you the score and scorers from this Championship cracker but it only tells some of the story...

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Zach Hemming saved two penalty kicks and then got himself a red card for flying out of his box to bring down Andrew Ryan.

Ryan and David Moyo were the players denied from the penalty spot.

  17. Kyogo injury 'nothing major' - Postecogloupublished at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: St Johnstone 1-3 Celtic

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says the injury that forced Kyogo Furuhashi off in today's early kick-off is "nothing major".

"We knew Kyogo wasn't 100% but he wanted to give it a go today," Postecoglou told BBC Sportsound.

"We said don't overly risk it, so we know it's nothing major, nothing that will keep him out anyway."

On his side's win, Postecoglou adds: "The first half was excellent, we scored two and should have had more.

"Second half was a bit scrappy but we still had chances, so super happy with the players' attitude and commitment.

"We controlled the game for large parts and it's a deserved three points."
