  5. 'We have got to win games'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

    Norwich 0-4 Man City

    Norwich City

Norwich boss Dean Smith speaking to Match of the Day: "The second goal for me changed the game, took the wind out of our sails. I am disappointed with the manner of the goals, they are a fantastic football team but we made a big mistake for the first, the second we forgot our principles and then concede from a second phase corner for the third.

"And don't get me stated on the penalty - that is never a penalty, just two players coming together - he said it was for lower body contact, I have been to see him, that's why I called it pathetic at the time and still believe it is.

"We had some moemnts in the game. Grant Hanley has hit the post, Teemu Pukki has worked the goalkeeper, when it was 1-0 we stayed in the game but that second probably flattened the whole atmosphere.

"We have got to win games to bring them into it with ourselves. All we can do is concentrate on what we do - it is a tough league to win in and we have got Newcastle, Burnley and Brentford still to play here, if we can win games at Carrow Road then it helps us climb out the relegation places."

  8. 'It wasn’t one-way traffic'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

    Norwich 0-4 Man City

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Dean Smith to Sky Sports: "It's a frustrating evening, we were beaten by a really good team.

"If we get beaten 5-0 or 6-0 and they open us up and score good goals I'd be more accepting with the players. It's the manner of goals I’m really disappointed with. We hung on, they missed some big chances, we had some moments ourselves. It wasn’t one-way traffic.

"The second goal kills us. We forgot our principles and allowed a tap-in. That deflated the whole stadium. It was tough after that.

"The way they play, it’s difficult for centre-halves as you don’t know who to mark. We could have got out a little quicker.

"For the fourth goal [penalty] I told Andre [Marriner] - I think he’s a good referee - that decision was pathetic.

"Goals change games. Once the second goal went in, we knew it was an uphill battle. The lads never gave in, they put all the effort in. They were simply better than us tonight.

"I’ve said to the players our season won’t be defined by playing against Man City. We knew our players had to make very few mistakes and we made too many."

  9. 'I am so happy for Raheem'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

    FT: Norwich 0-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the Day: "Important is the way we played - our behaviour and concentration was good, all the time it looks easy but it is difficult to do our job and we did it again.

"We start with the front foot the second half and it helped us a lot to score in the first minuntes, we created a lot of chances today. Norwich were in their best moment of the season, our fans came here five or six hours by car or train and I am very happy we could win for them."

On Raheem Sterling: "For his confidence it will be massive, the first goal is brilliant, when Raheem executes without thinking he is excellent.

"I am so happy for him because strikers need to score for confidence for the next games. The second goal was a good cross, Ruben (Dias) was brilliant and was there but in general he (Sterling) was active and made good touches."

On Fernandinho: "What a captain we have, I said many times all the things going to happen to him he deserves it.

"We need everyone so cannot play all competitions with just 11 players. We don't have any doubts over the squad, because I know how important they are - this season, everyone is going to help us.

"The most important thing is how you perform, every player tried to do his best."

    Norwich 0-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky: "From the first minute we created two or three chances in five or 10 minutes. It was a really good performance overall.

"Raheem Sterling made a brilliant first goal and the second he was there. You realise his confidence, aggression. In the last game he made an excellent action. He always creates something.

"[We need] a lot of points. We know what rival we have, the closest one is Liverpool. They won’t drop many points for the quality they have. It’s the best squad they have in the last decade. We’ll have to win a lot of games."

  13. 'Our biggest challenge is to keep going'published at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

    Norwich 0-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Raheem Sterling speaking to Match of the Day: "A difficult run to come, it is every three days and we need to go again, we have done that today.

"We knew how difficult it would be, we didn't think it would be an easy game. We had to keep going and take our chances."

On the first of his hat-trick: "When I controlled the ball on the edge of the box, my first intention was to try and get at the defender, shift a yard and shoot."

On his second and the penalty: "We do a lot on set-pieces in training, try to improve on every area. They all count, hit the target, that's what matters!

"It's our consistency, we have been doing it for a couple of years, our biggest challenege is to keep going. We can't look at the past, we have to keep going."

On scoring a perfect hat-trick (netting with his left foot after missing the right-foot penalty)... "Yeah. Left foot, easy one, right on their goalline.

"You’re not going to score everything that goes your way but keep shooting and the goals will come.

"To be a top team the challenge is to keep winning every three days."
