Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

We went to sleep from the free kick and were slack on our eighteen yard box. Davis got a foot in at the vital moment, any contact there and he would have gone down.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Jonny Evans is booked for being a split second late in a 50/50 with Grigoris Kastanos.

The Leicester City man isn't happy with that one!

  3. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland are carved open on the counter.

Pittas comes away with it and has all the time and space - almost too much - and he hesitates which allows Paddy Lane and Steven Davis to get back and get a crucial touch to stop the danger.

That was a massive let off.

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

Good start from Northern Ireland in this second half. We’ve let Davis and Charles start to play and we are creating openings. The manager should tell the players to give Charles the ball as much as they can as he looks a talented player.

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Ciaron Brown fires in a deep cross but Jonny Evans can only head it into the side netting.

  6. CLOSE!published at 18:06 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

The ball falls kindly for Gavin Whyte on the edge of the box and his first-time effort is powerful but straight at keeper Neofytos Michael.

    That's much more like it.

  7. Postpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

George Saville plays in a low ball towards the back post.

It looked inviting, but Kyle Lafferty had sprinted to the near post and Cyprus are able to clear.

Paddy McNair looks disinterested. He looks lost out there, he has a greater influence in this side in the centre of the park. He has walked through 45 minutes of football alongside Steven Davis. We need a spark from the midfield.

  11. Huge 45 minutes coming up for flat NIpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

What a goal that would have been by Fanos Katelaris.

And what a sad end to a fairly dreary first half it would have been for Northern Ireland if his 35-yard thunderbolt had gone in and not struck the crossbar.

The stats say Northern Ireland have had five efforts on goal but none have been on target and it really hasn't looked like they are going to score at any stage.

It's been slow. It's been flat. It's been uninspiring from Ian Baraclough's men.

Niall McGinn and Kyle Lafferty made a difference from the bench against Greece, and you just wonder if any of the subs tonight can get on and turn the game in Northern Ireland's favour.

This is a huge 45 minutes coming up for Northern Ireland.

There is a severe lack of energy and it has been a laboured performance.

They are getting in really good areas but not putting balls in the box. Kyle is dropping deeper and deeper but we don't look penetrative enough. We definitely need to make some changes as we look like we have lost our identity.

We are not direct enough and have not turned their back four. It is better than Thursday night but we have to try and lift the tempo, which is going to be difficult in the conditions

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Not a second over the 45 minutes played.

It's hardly been a glowing endorsement for four Nations League games in June.

  17. Postpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Niall McGinn gets to the line and cuts the ball back but there are no Northern Ireland players there to meet it.

  18. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

That was nearly one of the best strikes you'll ever see!

Defender Fanos Katelaris picks the ball up 35 yards out and thinks, 'why not?'

It's an absolute rocket and looked like it would fly into the top corner but, thankfully for Northern Ireland, it cannons back off the bar and the visitors clear.

It hit it so well and Peacock-Farrell was beaten!

  19. Away day bluespublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Kyle Lafferty’s last international goal away from Windsor Park came in the 3-1 over the Faroe Islands in September 2015, how Northern Ireland could do with one now.

  20. Postpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

It's hit to the back post towards Shea Charles in the area but he's outjumped by two defenders and Cyprus clear it away.
