We are keeping possession but we aren’t threatening at all. I don’t think we have mentioned Steven Davis the whole game. We have to play better and be more creative in the midfield.

That sums it up so far with 31 minutes on the clock.

Cyprus are happy enough for Northern Ireland to have the ball in their own half, we need to up the tempo. We are picking the easy ball and playing backwards, we need to be braver than that.

  9. Pedestrian Northern Ireland need a sparkpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

It didn't end up with an effort on goal, but that move down the right was the first time Northern Ireland have played with a high tempo.

Manager Ian Baraclough will be hoping it sparks his players into life, because so far it has been a bit pedestrian - not unlike it was against Greece on Thursday.

Shea Charles looks like nothing will faze him and some of his passing had been good, but once or twice he has looked to take a bit too long on the ball and has been dispossessed.

Cyprus have looked comfortable on the ball so far and, by sitting as deep as they are, they are making it difficult for the visitors.

Told you it would make you feel old.

Speaking of Shea Charles, does anyone want to feel really, really old?

Shea Charles strolls about, he has a lovely touch and a nice range of passing. It seems clear that the message from the bench is to give the ball to him when possible.

The Cypriot defence slice the ball out for a corner and it sparks cheers from the Northern Ireland fans behind.

Paddy McNair whips the corner in but the referee blows for a foul on the goalkeeper.

    As you were.

Kyle Lafferty is played in and his touch breaks to Gavin Whyte, who spins on the edge of the area but is smothered by blue shirts.

That's more encouraging for Baraclough and Northern Ireland.

There is no pace in the game at all, it is quite pedestrian at the minute. It must be hard for our lads in the heat.

Cyprus look really comfortable on the ball here and look the more likely to make something happen.

Ioannis Pittas has another go from the edge of the area but he's well closed down by the white shirts.

  17. CLOSE!published at 17:18 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have to be careful here.

Paddy McNair only half clears a long ball and it falls kindly for Loizos Loizou, who fires in a teasing effort that Bailey Peacock-Farrell does well to get down and keep out.

It took a bounce right in front of the keeper so he had to watch that one closely.

Kyle came on and he huffed and puffed the other night but the service was hopeless. We need to get better service to him tonight as the balls through to the front two the other night weren’t sticking.

Ohh! Paddy McNair whips in a dangerous ball and George Saville, arriving late, gets under the ball and sends it over the bar.

  20. How NI are shaping up early onpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Cyprus 0-0 Northern Ireland

    Mark Sterling
    BBC Sport NI

It's not always easy trying to predict the Northern Ireland formation, but it's clear Ian Baralcough has gone with the 4-3-3 shape that he finished the defeat against Greece with.

Paddy McNair is once again showing his versatility by moving from the back three to right-back, with Nial McGinn coming in on the left of the front three and Gavin Whyte on the other side.

Shea Charles, in the midfield three with captain Steven Davis and George Saville, has had a few early touches on his first start and has looked comfortable.

Still, though, 11 minutes played and Northern Ireland have yet to create a chance.
