For 43 minutes of the game we got taught a lesson, but all of a sudden we're back in it. Football is a funny game.

Well, that was rubbish for 44 minutes.

Thank goodness for Shayne Lavery, who pulled one back from absolutely nowhere.

Zymer Bytyqi skies one over from inside the area.

That was almost an instant response.

That Lavery goal puts us right back in the tie from absolute nowhere.

We were wondering just how much damage Shayne Lavery could do if he could get into more central positions.

    Just saying...

GOAL - Kosovo 2-1 Northern Irelandpublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Shayne Lavery (44 mins)

    A goal! Goaaaaaal! I can't believe it!

Brodie Spencer dinks in a deep cross to the back post and Shayne Lavery, in a central position, heads it in from two yards.

    A proper striker's finish.

  8. CLOSE!published at 20:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Zymer Bytyqi plays in a brilliant cross and it glances off Dan Ballard. Thankfully for Northern Ireland it lands on the roof of the net.

Two minutes to go until half-time.

It's easy to get too hung up on formations, but you have to feel for Shayne Lavery tonight.

The man who loves getting in behind and stretching defences from a central striking role looks a bit lost on the right side of a front three - and too often than not has found himself tracking people back or closing them down.

Hard to wonder why he isn't deployed centrally.

Ali McCann stands over it and it's dreadful. Straight out for a goal kick.

That sums everything up so far.

  11. Postpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Conor McMenamin wins a free-kick just outside the area. This could be a good chance.

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Conor McMenamin goes it alone. He charges into the area but, on his weaker right, hits the side netting.

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Ciaron Brown launches a long throw into the area but the hosts easily clear.

When we get the back in our back three, we have got to get our midfield into the game. We haven't done that at all yet.

  15. Postpublished at 20:19 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Dan Ballard, who has been Northern Ireland's best player by some distance, heads a corner towards goal but it's comfortable for Samir Ujkani.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:18 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Bailey Peacock-Farrell is stopping this from being more!

Florent Muslija curls one towards the top corner and the keeper does well to push the ball away.

Milot Rashica blasts one towards goal but it's well held by Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

He's definitely the danger man for the hosts.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 9 June 2022

    Kosovo 2-0 Northern Ireland

Shayne Lavery is booked for catching Donat Rrudhani, who was charging forward.

It's probably harsh, but who honestly cares at this point.
