On a lighter note... Australia, like Wales, are going to Qatar.

  9. Wales' poor record against tonight's opponentspublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    HT: Netherlands 2-1 Wales

The stats below are a bit brutal to be honest. I give you permission to skip this post if you are Welsh.

    ● Netherlands have won all nine of their matches against Wales in all competitions, including their 2-1 victory in the Nations League this month.

    ● This is Wales’ first visit to the Netherlands since a 2-0 away defeat in a friendly in Amsterdam in June 2014, with Arjen Robben and Jeremain Lens on the scoresheet for the Dutch.

    ● Wales have only scored one goal in their five away games against the Netherlands, with Dean Saunders scoring to make it 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier in November 1996; they would go on to lose the game 7-1.

    ● Only Greece (9 games) are currently enjoying a longer unbeaten run in the Nations League than the Netherlands (7 games – W4 D3), while they have scored at least two goals in each of their last five games in the competition (13 in total).

    ● Wales have only lost two of their last 13 internationals (W5 D6), although both defeats have come in the Nations League against Poland and the Netherlands (both 1-2).

    ● Wales are winless in their last three Nations League games (D1 L2), conceding as many goals in those three games as in their previous nine matches in the competition (5).

    ● Only Romelu Lukaku and Danel Sinani (both 11) have been involved in more goals in the Nations League than the Netherlands’ Memphis Depay (10 – 6 goals, 4 assists). Indeed, should he score, he’d go level with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with 42 goals for the national team, with only Robin van Persie scoring more for the Oranje (50).

    ● Brennan Johnson scored his first goal for Wales last time out against Belgium, becoming the third different player for the Dragons in the Nations League aged 21 or under to score for them (also Neco Williams and Harry Wilson). Only England, Georgia and Luxembourg have had more different players to do so (all four).

    HT: Netherlands 2-1 Wales

    Nathan Blake
Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

If Wales can find a way to keep the ball for three or four passes and then look to release, I think they'll get a lot of joy out of this Dutch backline.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Netherlands 2-1 Wales

    That's half-time.

    The contest flew by.

Wales were second best for much of that half, but are very much still in things.

Brennan Johnson's goal has given them hope.

  13. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Netherlands 2-1 Wales

Wayne Hennessey gives the ball away!

    Netherlands 2-1 Wales
