  1. 'England have to wake up'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    England 0-1 Hungary

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's totally against the run of play. John Stones got beaten in the air for the first ball but it was a magnificent finish.

Sallai took it on his thigh and unleashed it in the top corner and it went past Ramsdale so quickly.

These England players are going to have to wake up.

Gareth Southgate will be very disappointed, Harry Kane received the ball on the halfway line and had a simple pass, but took it on himself and lost it.

GOAL - England 0-1 Hungarypublished at 15 mins

    Roland Sallai

    Oh dear.

Hungary gets into the England box for the first time and score.

A ball is pumped into the box and it is shocking defending from John Stones, half turning his back on the ball and mis-cueing the header.

The ball spins towards the left-edge of the box where Roland Sallai can take a touch and hammer a finish into the back of the net.

Aaron Ramsdale gets a good portion of the ball but cannot keep it out.

    Molineux is silenced.

Hungary are sat in deep and are making it difficult but England need to get the ball moving quicker.

Harry Kane is coming all the way back into his own half to get a touch on the ball.

He smashes a first-time pass back into the feet of Marc Guehi before spinning away.

Looks like Andras Schafer can hobble on.

Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen curls a free-kick into the box which the dangerous John Stones meets from a long way out, but the header bounces easily into the grasp of goalkeeper Denes Dibusz.

Joe Baker: People keep saying we have no left back options right now. Has Southgate been watching West Ham recently? This fella called Aaron Cresswell. Pretty sure he is a decent left back...

    Have some of that.

Conor Gallagher showing his box-to-box abilities, chasing back to barge Barnsley's Callum Styles off the ball and bring it out.

Excellent start from the Chelsea midfielder.

No lethargy shown by Bukayo Saka, he is sharply onto a pass from Harry Kane but cannot get it under control in the box.

Saka a World Cup starter for you guys?

    Hit the thumbs.

    Alex Bysouth

England are already looking sharper in possession than Saturday evening and fizzing the ball about with purpose. Reece James is showing a willingness to get forward from left-back, and that's making a difference.

  12. Costa Rica halfway therepublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

HT: Costa Rica 1-0 New Zealand

Costa Rica are 45 minutes away from qualifying for the World Cup as they lead 1-0 against New Zealand in the intercontinental play-off.

Joel Campbell scored with Costa Rica's only effort of the first half after only three minutes and, despite creating a number of chances, New Zealand, with Newcastle striker Chris Wood leading the line, have been unable to equalise.

    England 0-0 Hungary

Lovely inter-changing football from England which results in Reece James finding Jarrod Bowen at the far post, the West Ham player is unchallenged but his header is weak and blocked close to the line.

Have to be burying those, I'm afraid.

Kalvin Phillips had to go off early against Germany having taken a heavy knock to his thigh.

The Leeds player (for now) is sandwiched by two Hungary players in the middle of the park but no damage done on this occasion.

  16. New Zealand's Wood has goal ruled outpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Costa Rica 1-0 New Zealand

Frustration for New Zealand as they thought they had equalised in their World Cup intercontinental play-off against Costa Rica.

A cross from Matthew Garbett was deflected into Chris Wood's path and the Newcastle striker shot past Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

However, the referee went to check the incident on a pitchside monitor after a video assistant referee check and disallowed the goal, judging that Garbett had fouled Oscar Duarte before crossing for Wood.

A few minutes of the first half left and Costa Rica still lead thanks to that early goal from Joel Campbell.

The boys are tired - the warm-up was very laboured. However, when you're winning you don't feel tired but when you start not playing so well the tiredness kicks in.
