    England

More quotes from England captain Harry Kane, talking to Channel 4...

On his celebration: "Look, we're playing Germany at Wembley, no matter what the competition that is always a big game. The boys have been under pressure with recent results and we all came out here with a point to prove but there are lessons we can still learn from the mistakes we made but we scored three goals and I feel like this will put us in a positive mindset ahead of the World Cup."

On the World Cup: "We're going to have to be ready come the start of the tournament. Major football tournament is different to any other football you play for England. The pressure is high and the concentration has to be high and I feel like we respond well to that.

"We've upped our game as we've gone along in the last two major tournaments. We dust ourselves down, we know we have to improve but there isn't that much time now with England before that first game, but we'll go away with our clubs and hopefully everyone goes away fit, strong and is ready to come back in November."

  5. More praise for Bellinghampublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    FT: England 3-3 Germany

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

They have to build a team around Jude Bellingham. England's first goal - Bellingham receives the ball inside his own half and there were three German midfielders in and around him. He could have taken the easy option and pop the ball back to Nick Pope.

He drifted through the German midfielders, popped the ball out to the right-hand side and England get their goal which was crucial. And gained a bit of momentum.

  6. 'The mentality and fight of the team was shown out there'published at 21:58 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    FT: England 3-3 Germany

    England

England captain Harry Kane, who now has scored 51 goals (two less than record holder Wayne Rooney), speaking to Channel 4: "It was a lot better. I thought we played really well today, we were unfortunate to go 2-0 behind, it was a mistake and then a great goal from the edge of the box.

"We did really well to stay in the game, to get back into it, get into the lead and then unfortunately another error. The mentality and fight of the team was shown out there today. We didn't get the win but we can be proud of what we did and it puts us in a good place ahead of the World Cup.

"It was nice to score obviously. There always seems to be a few pressure penalties here at Wembley but it was nice to see that one go in and just a shame we couldn't get the win but we keep going.

"I am proud of the boys and now we have a busy six weeks or so before we get ready for the World Cup."

Jude Bellingham has probably cemented his place next to Declan Rice moving into the World Cup. Such a special talent. So brave on the ball. Not afraid of the occasion or who is playing against or who is he playing for.

It was a real pleasure to be here today and witness him in a flesh.

  9. 'Could have ended as an absolute nightmare'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    FT: England 3-3 Germany

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

People in the country at this moment in time have been sniping on Gareth Southgate and calling him out by saying his performances have been boring. A lack of attacking threat in the last few games. They showed today that there is an attacking threat.

Made good substitutions and I think Gareth Southgate will come out of this game OK. This could have ended up as an absolute nightmare.

Ben Edgecombe: Not bad from England. Playing with 10 men plus Harry Maguire. Bellingham man of the match, Saka needs to start in the correct position. Need to swap to four at the back take out Maguire for a midfielder! Phillips or Henderson!

Trevor Priestman: The England response after Germany went 2-0 up was so important. Excellent come back. Shame to draw but a positive & an uplift for the squad to take on to the World Cup. Lots to still work on but maybe this will get some of the critics off the lads' backs. On to Qatar!

    England 3-3 Germany

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was worried about today because the way England have set up to defend deep and counter, but they were brave. I thought Bellingham was a huge positive once again for England.

They came from behind and get themselves in front, but couldn't see it through. The way the game was planned out which was a nightmare for Gareth Southgate.

  13. How it finishes in the Nations Leaguepublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    England 3-3 Germany

England were already certain of finishing last, and they end with three points (but no wins) from their six games.

Italy, thanks to a 2-0 away win in Hungary, finish top of the group and join the Netherlands and Croatia in the Nations League semi-finals. Portugal and Spain play tomorrow to decide the last semi-finalist.

    England 3-3 Germany

A crazy, frantic second half and it ends all square at Wembley. England looked finished at 2-0 down, then scored three times in 12 minutes to take the lead.

But a goalkeeping error from Nick Pope, unable to hold on to Serge Gnabry's shot, gifted Kai Havertz his second goal of the night and his 87th-minute equaliser leaves it 3-3.

Plenty to be encouraged about, and worried about, for Gareth Southgate.
