Leeds v Man Utd (14:00 GMT)

Leeds' only win in their last 16 top-flight games against Manchester United was by 1-0 at Elland Road in September 2002 and they have won just four of the 27 Premier League meetings.

Can anyone guess the Leeds goalscorer that day?

  2. Can Leeds bounce back?published at 13:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Elland Road

Elland Road has been groaning under the weight of a deluge here in Yorkshire for hours but there is no escaping the excitement in the air outsider the ground for this most eagerly-awaited meeting with Manchester United.

Leeds United have had a week to recover from a chastening beating at Everton amid mounting speculation about the long-term future of their beloved manager Marcelo Bielsa.

There will be a thunderous atmosphere behind the home team so they must hope this exciting Leeds side can produce something near their best to test a largely unconvincing Manchester United.

Now then there are quite a few players who have played for both of these clubs....

Gordon Strachan, Eric Cantona, Lee Sharpe, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith all spring to mind.

But Daniel James can become the first player to score a Premier League goal in this fixture for both clubs. Have his pace and work rate have been missed at Old Trafford this season since he moved to Leeds? You have to wonder.

It's pouring down and more than a little chilly but a white hot reception awaits Manchester United and their fans at Elland Road by the sounds of it.

Are both managers trying to be a bit more reserved? Adam Forshaw is the type of player that can definitely put in a shift in midfield for Leeds.

And you'd have thought that Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has struggled in possession has been preferred to Diogo Dalot for his defensive capabilities when defending one v one.

And what about Jesse Lingard making his first league start for over two years? A player that can cover plenty of ground.

Hit the thumbs if you agree with those decisions Leeds and Manchester United fans.

  6. Team News - Raphinha on the bench for Leeds, Lingard starts for Man Utdpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

Marcelo Bielsa makes one change from the Leeds side that lost 3-0 to Everton last time out.

As for Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick gives Jesse Lingard his first league start of the season.

He’s one of three changes for the visitors who beat Brighton 2-0 in midweek, with Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also returning.

Fred, Anthony Elanga and Diogo Dalot all drop to the bench.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Fernandes, Sancho, Ronaldo.

Subs: Henderson, Mata, Rashford, Fred, Varane, Dalot, Telles, Matic, Elanga.

When he did his pre-match briefing Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa had not ruled Stuart Dallas out despite him coming off injured against Everton last weekend.

Junior Firpo was expected to return after a month's absence but Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper, Leo Hjelde and Kalvin Phillips all remain on the sidelines.

Manchester United were hoping to welcome back Raphael Varane, who missed the Brighton game because of a stomach issue.

Nemanja Matic was also been talked about as an option in midfield but Edinson Cavani is still unavailable.

Can't wait to see the actual teams.

  9. Could Leeds become number 169?published at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

Leeds v Man Utd (14:00 GMT)

If Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Manchester United, it will be the longest gap for a player between games against an opponent in Premier League history, having last faced Leeds 18 years and 125 days ago on 18 October 2003.

Wonder how many at Elland Road today were not even born then. Still I'm sure they will know all about the reputation of this man.

Marcelo Bielsa says it is going to be "precious to witness" his Leeds side host their first Premier League game against Manchester United in front of fans at Elland Road for 19 years.

When the pair met at the ground last season the match was held behind closed doors because of coronavirus.

The last top-flight fixture between the teams in front of supporters at Elland Road was in 2003, a game the Red Devils won 1-0.

"It's difficult to imagine a support bigger or better than what we've already received," said Bielsa. "They always support the team unconditionally.

"The presence of a classic opponent increases enthusiasm. It's going to be precious to be able to witness it.

"We think more about what we need to give to the public rather than what we receive from them."
