  3. 'Mixed feelings' for Maloneypublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach Shaun Maloney tells BBC Sportsound he has "mixed feelings" about Hibs' defeat tonight.

“Definitely some things to improve on but very, very pleased with parts of the game," he says. "Once we did get through Celtic's press we can improve there.

“It was a big test for our players with Celtic going ahead early.

“We need to be more aggressive when we do get through their line of pressure, but that's for me to work on, I'm the coach."

On Kevin Nisbet's early miss, he said: "It's a big chance but Kevin's been excellent for me. That's what strikers do, some they take some they miss some and in big games like this, it is very fine margins."

I would be surprised if Hibs aren't trying to get a few out on loan, or just move a few off the books completely. Their squad is too big now, there are some players who won't even get a sniff.

  5. 'We were in control for the whole 90 minutes'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Hibernian

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Sportsound: "I think we were in control for the whole 90 minutes. It was a good first-half and it was a first-half type of game.

"We started the game with really good energy and tempo and we could have had one or two more if we weren't as wasteful.

"Second half we didn't create as much but we were still in control, that's the balancing act of having a few weeks break, they were fresh and ready but maybe a bit rusty in a few areas."

On Hibs early chance and their performance, he added: “Yeah, they had a chance early on but our chances far outweigh that.

"You can see Shaun is trying to put a game style into them and credit to them they stuck to it until the end."

Hatate, with the quality he showed tonight, Iniesta comes to mind for me in comparison. I want to see him in the middle of the park for Celtic.

I keep thinking back to Hibs' golden chance in the first few minutes and I can't remember any other real opportunities where they penetrated and got in behind.

Now here's something you don't see every day...

If you look closely, you can see Mad Men actor Jon Hamm sitting in front of St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin, taking in tonight's game.

I wonder if he asked Goodwin for an autograph?

When all their players are fit, this Celtic team could be an absolute thrill-fest. It's some middle-to-front they have.

  10. Postpublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Hibernian

The second half wasn't up to much really, with Celtic taking their foot off the gas and Hibs offering next to nothing.

All of the damage was done in a high-tempo first 45 minutes, with goals from Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranovic.

  11. FULL-TIME Celtic 2-0 Hibernianpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

A very comfortable evening for Celtic, who scored twice in a blistering first half.

Ange Postecoglou's side are now three points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers, who visit Aberdeen tomorrow.

The second half hasn't been at the level Ange Postecoglou would have been hoping for after the first. It's been a wee bit slack, but it's the first game back after the break

  14. Postpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

Time is almost up and Hibs are still knocking passes square and backwards, not applying any pressure at the top end of the pitch.

  15. Jota returns for Celticpublished at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2022

    Celtic 2-0 Hibernian

Giorgos Giakoumakis is offside as his shot is dealt with by Matt Macey.

Perhaps the biggest cheer of the second half as Jota returns from injury to take over from Celtic winger James Forrest.

We've got around eight minutes left of the 90.

If Hibs were to get one back it could change the game a touch, maybe create an edge in the stadium. They'd have to do something to create a chance though.

James Forrest cuts in from the left and lets fly with a shot. It swerves a fair bit in the air, but Matt Macey holds on.
