    England 1-0 Ivory Coast

James Ward-Prowse curls in the set-piece and it's straight to Declan Rice. He's a fair way out and doesn't get enough power on the header, which is straight at the goalkeeper.

That was a nasty tackle, I think he is fortunate. Caught him late, studs up on the ankle, with Raheem Sterling in full flight.

  3. England's deserved leadpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 29 March 2022

    England 1-0 Ivory Coast

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

It had been coming. England very bright in attack and Raheem Sterlng laid that on a plate for Ollie Watkins. Ivory Coast have shown nothing in attack so far.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 34 mins

    England 1-0 Ivory Coast

Raheem Sterling is really enjoying himself. He skips past a few players as he cuts inside off the right and Fulham's Jean Michael Seri brings him down with a scrape on the back of his heel. He gets a yellow card for it too.

  5. Portugal leadpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 29 March 2022

    Portugal 1-0 North Macedonia

First blood to Portugal in the winner-takes-all World Cup play-off against North Macedonia.

And it is very much a goal made in Manchester as Bruno Fernandes scores from a Cristiano Ronaldo assist.

Brilliant skill from the captain, a brilliant bit of individual play to make the space. If Ollie Watkins wanted an audition for Manchester City, that was it. A Manchester City-style goal, brilliant from Sterling.

GOAL - England 1-0 Ivory Coastpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 29 March 2022

    Ollie Watkins (30 mins)

A first start for England and a goal at Wembley - no wonder Ollie Watkins is beaming.

It's the easiest of goals for him too as Raheem Sterling's trickery opens things up on the left.

The skipper then tees up Watkins to poke home from a few yards out. Never missing from there.

Scotland are enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run stretching back to last September. Is that about to become eight? They've taken the lead in their friendly away to Austria, Jack Hendry with the breakthrough goal.

That corner had Harry Maguire written all over it, it seemed like it was written in the stars.

  10. CLOSE!published at 28 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Simon Deli makes a big block to deny Raheem Sterling, who did well to flick it up before firing a volley that was heading for goal.

It just needs that intensity off the ball - when they do press, because there is no threat in behind at the moment, they can press with real purpose.

  12. Postpublished at 27 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham put pressure on Ivory Coast and win it for England just outside their box.

It comes across to Raheem Sterling but his early cross is blocked. There's a few appeals for handball but it looked like it hit the ribs!

  13. Postpublished at 25 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Harry Maguire reads a through ball and uses his body to see it out for a goal kick.

He gets an applause from the Wembley crowd who didn't give him the warmest of welcomes earlier.

  14. Postpublished at 24 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Tyrick Mitchell takes his eye off the ball and miscontrols it near the touchline but he gets an encouraging clap off Gareth Southgate and a shout from Jack Grealish nearby. A big night for the Palace full-back.

Some nice touches already from England going forward, with Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham prominent. Quiet so far for Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

  16. Postpublished at 22 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Maxwel Cornet has looked bright for Ivory Coast. He runs at England's backline but a combination of Ben White and James Ward-Prowse help to bring it out.

Another good bit of play and it is Jude Bellingham at the heart of it again - he has a bit more of a free role than I thought he would, perhaps the freedom of playing in front of Declan Rice.

Not many goals around in Europe, where we are keeping a particularly close eye on the World Cup play-off matches between Poland-Sweden and Portugal-North Macedonia.

However, Belgium have scored two quick goals in a friendly against Burkina Faso with Hans Vanaken and Brighton's Leandro Trossard finding the net.

  19. CLOSE!published at 20 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Jude Bellingham is bossing things in midfield. He slides in to win a loose ball and it kickstarts England's attack.

James Ward-Prowse pings it over to Jack Grealish, he teases the full-back then drills it towards the near post. Not too far away.

  20. Postpublished at 18 mins

    England 0-0 Ivory Coast

Burnley's Maxwel Cornet gets in behind Ben White down the left and wins a corner when his cross is blocked.

    It comes to nothing.
