  1. 'Leeds were a lot more organised'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Leeds played very well. They were on the front foot. They conceded the goal, but I’ve seen so many Leeds performances of late where they’ve been so open. I didn’t really see that today.

They were a lot more organised and pressed in zones, which is very different from what they’ve done. If they continue that, especially at home, I can see them picking up the necessary points.

  2. 'They have made so much progress'published at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Leicester 1-0 Leeds

    Leeds United

New Leeds boss Jesse Marsch to BBC Match of the Day: "Even going into the match I felt the performance was more important than the points. It is our first match together, we have had four days on the [training] pitch together and I'm pleased with how they controlled the match in all phases of the game, including set pieces.

"They have made so much progress in a short space of a time."

  4. 'We need a clear, fresh mindset'published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Leicester 1-0 Leeds

    Leeds United

New Leeds manager Jesse Marsch speaking to BT Sport: "I have a fresh perspective. I look at the faces on the team and obviously they are disappointed because they know they have played well and deserved a result.

"After four days together and to have changed a lot of the tactics, I am really proud of the group to have stayed so stable at the back, not to have given much away and to have controlled so much of the match.

"I don't like to be screaming from the bench so much, but for me it is a good performance, there was clarity on the pitch and it was a good game from us.

"I understand there is stress, but we have to stay clear and maintain a clear, fresh mindset.

"I saw we had the lion's share of chances and shots, with a bit more calmness we will find goals.

"They are getting to know me, we are getting to know each other. To play so well at a tough place to play it doesn't feel right that we didn't get what we deserved but that is sport. 100% something to build on. A big first step for us."

DJMikeWheeler: Yes, we can see Ralph Hasenhüttl as a manager of a top 6 club. Ralph and Southampton only need another 3 places and we’re there. No need to leave.

  7. 'We are showing signs of last season'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Leicester 1-0 Leeds

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Harvey Barnes to BT Sport: "It's always a tough game against Leeds. They had a new manager as well so we didn't know how they were going to set up, but they still have the same intensity, it's still end to and. A tough afternoon but delighted with the three points.

"The goal came at a good time for us. The first goal was always crucial.

"You don't want to make it end-to-end against Leeds. You want to keep the ball and we didn't do that for a lot of the afternoon, we made it that basketball game.

"But we still created chances and defended well when we needed.

"It's been an up and down season so far but the last few results and performances have been positive. We are showing signs of last season and results come from that."

Christian Eriksen’s name being in the starting XI for the first time since he collapsed playing for Denmark in the Euros is a moment of light in these dark times.

He will be cheered loudly, by both sides.

But neither team will let it be a distraction for a game which is a must win for Norwich and getting to be a must-win for Brentford.

It may be one goal that separates these sides… could Eriksen be the catalyst for that?

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Patrick Bamford will be a massive help when he comes back. Kalvin Phillips is still to come back too. You are talking about two England internationals. If Bamford was in that team, they would score more goals.

Leeds remain two points above the relegation zone. How soon before Patrick Bamford is starting for them again? His return could be key.

  12. 'This has been a good Leeds performance'published at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Leicester 1-0 Leeds

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

After only a week's training [with new manager Jesse Marsch], this has been a really good performance from Leeds in my view.

They look a lot more organised, there was more structure about them. Leeds have been unlucky today, they had more shots on target, but Leicester had four and put one of them in.

Leeds need a striker. They create so many chances, why is Bamford on the bench but not brought on?

Paul: The ref will get blamed for Leeds losing due to the penalty not been given, but they’ve been equally to blame themselves by being useless in front of goal. 18 shots with only four on target and no goals isn’t good enough. Doesn’t matter how you play if wasteful.

David Payn: This was a problem for Leeds in the Bielsa era, not converting chances. In the PL, you'll get punished for that.
