  1. CLOSE!published at 18 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

Manchester United come forward again and a nice passage of play ends with Paul Pogba hitting a dipping effort wide from outside the box.

This has been a very good start by the hosts, they are playing some decent football.

Tottenham try to respond as Son Heung-min has a pop from the edge of the box but his shot is charged down.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

    Well how about that!

Cristiano Ronaldo rolls back this years with an absolute peach of a strike.

A lovely flick by Fred finds Ronaldo in space 25 yards from goal and the forward hammers a rocket into the top corner.

How can anyone predict the outcome of this match? A team inconsistent from week to week vs. a team inconsistent from half to half.

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 12 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

Good work by Jadon Sancho on the left and he gets into the box before passing to Cristiano Ronaldo, whose shot hits Eric Dier. The Manchester United fans scream for handball, nothing from the referee and VAR has a check but is satisfied there's nothing in it.

Marcus Rashford plays a good ball forward for Paul Pogba as the midfielder runs into the box. He plays it back to Cristiano Ronaldo, who I think attempts a cross but his clipped effort goes over the bar.

  8. 'Chelsea get sanctioned'published at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham's fans are quick to start having fun at Chelsea's expense.

"Chelsea get sanctioned everywhere they go," they have just been singing.

Technically, Chelsea haven't been sanctioned - that is Roman Abramovich, who cannot even be a director of the club now.

Manchester United privately think what has happened at Stamford Bridge underlines the value of their business model.

Son Heung-min again worries the Manchester United defence as he keeps the ball in play on the left before racing to the edge of the box. He passes to Harry Kane, whose attempt to the flick the ball through to Matt Doherty is cut out.

    Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham send the ball over the top for Son Heung-min to chase. For a moment it looks like the Spurs forward might be in but David de Gea comes to the edge of his area to clear the ball.

Now it is Tottenham's turn to have the ball as Harry Kane knocks it down the flank for Matt Doherty to chase but good defending by Alex Telles as he deals with the danger.

Manchester United keep the ball well in the opening couple of minutes, passing the ball from left to right and back again as they try to find openings.

    Shaheer: Observing today’s pattern, I’m hypothesising a 2 - 0 win for Spurs.

Paul: This is more proof that Harry Maguire is undroppable because of his price tag. He was worse than anyone against Man City in that defence yet it’s Wan-Bissaka and Lindelof who get dropped. Maguire wouldn’t play for any other big club at all.

Ralf Rangnick and Antonio Conte have just exchanged pleasantries by the touchline.

Deep down, they must wonder what to expect from their team today. Tottenham have mixed victories over Manchester City, Leeds and Everton with defeats to Burnley and Middlesbrough.

Manchester United were hammered at City and lost to Middlesbrough but did get a draw in Madrid against Atletico and also beat Leeds easily.

  16. 'Story of our season'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche to BBC Sport: “That’s the story of our season. We were solid, we never really looked in trouble, then we give away a goal. We were not a million miles away but you have to score a goal and that’s not what we’ve done.

“We had a grip on the game, a one v one, hitting the bar, we had good energy, corners and we couldn’t find a goal and they did.

“That’s the realities of the Premier League. We shouldn’t lose that game today. They might have accepted a point.

“Nowadays you touch people in the box and it’ll be given. Why really [give a red card] when it’s that kind of challenge. They’ll say the rules are the rules.

“I’ve learned down the years that’s what happens in the Premier League. You go on a strong run with a confident edge and all of a sudden you lose three. The main thing is stay calm with what we’re doing. We’ve still got games in hand. We’ve got to find goals. That’s been our biggest challenge all season.

"We’ve got to score goals. That’s the biggest challenge from now on. We created enough chances.

“The experience level is right, the energy is right but you have to find the details. We were hoping Maxwel would do better. We’ve not been far off but we haven’t been the right side of it again today.”

  18. 'We performed well in a very even game'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Burnley

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC Sport: "Every win is a massive thing in the Premier League because it’s so difficult to win. We performed well in a very even game. Very decisive things went our way.

"We had a few situations where we could have scored earlier. In the end I think we deserved it. We started fantastic [this season] then had some injuries and struggled and now back-to-back wins is fantastic.

"We’ve done a lot of good things getting into good situations but lacked the final bit of quality [until recently]. That’s exactly what I wanted. Christian was composed and an unbelievable cross on his weaker foot.

"One game at a time. That’s what we’ve said all season. I don’t think we’ve won at home since January and that’s the reason why it’s nice to celebrate with the fans.

"We knew it would be a tight game with a small bit decisive.

"In terms of big saves David Raya had one, which was a decisive save. My back four and the team defended very well. A good defensive game.

"We’re very pleased to get the back-to-back wins. We need to build on that."

Man Utd v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Ten-year-old boy Ben Dickinson has just completed a marvellous fund-raising walk from his home in Larne, Northern Ireland to Manchester.

Dickinson was inspired by Marcus Rashford and has raised the cost of more than 50,000 meals for FareShare, the food poverty charity Rashford has been working with.

Dickinson has just been introduced to the crowd at Old Trafford and has received a magnificent ovation.

This is such a fantastic story in a desperately grim period news wise.

  20. 'That was a capitulation'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

Man Utd v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Manchester United were decent in the first half at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday because they carried a threat but what we saw from them after that was basically a capitulation.

It was back to their own pattern of one good half and one bad half, and that second half was arguably their worst of the season.

We know Spurs can be flaky but the form that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are in at the moment makes me think they will cause United all sorts of problems, if they get any sort of supply.

    Prediction: 1-2
