    Celtic 0-0 Raith Rovers

Celtic get the game under way.

Are we in for the first shock of the Scottish Cup last-16, or will the form side in Scottish football plough through to the quarter-finals?

Thumbs up for a Celtic win, thumbs down for Rovers!

Angle Postecoglu has utilised his squad, but it doesn’t appear to weaken this side too much on paper. The strength in depth is considerable and expect the same level of intensity and purpose as players look to stake their starting claims.

For Raith Rovers, they are simply desperate for any positivity after the David Goodwillie controversy. They face an almighty task.

    Quote Message

John, like any other manager at Celtic Park, will be desperate not to concede an early goal and keep them compact. It's a huge challenge for John and I'm sure he didn't sleep much last night, but he's got nothing to lose and, if they can keep the score down, he will be happy

  5. Rovers suffering slumppublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Rovers can claim to be unbeaten in four outings.

However, the latest three of those were draws and their only victory in nine outings came away to North Superleague junior side Banks O'Dee in the previous round of the Scottish Cup.

  6. Fortress Celtic Parkpublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

The enormity of Rovers' task is shown by the fact Celtic are seeking a ninth consecutive win and are unbeaten in 16 games since losing to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

Indeed, Celtic have not lost to domestic opposition in 25 outings since losing away to Livingston in September and haven't lost to a Scottish side at Celtic Park this season.

  7. Second Celtic Park trip for Rovers this termpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has already got the better of Rovers this season - the Fifers having been in Glasgow on League Cup duty in September, losing 3-0.

Jota, Liel Abada and David Turnbull were on target on a comfortable day for the home side.

That was to set up a semi-final with St Johnstone, while Celtic went on to beat Hibs in the final.

The Kirkcaldy side haven't managed a win over Celtic since their famous League Cup final triumph in 1994.

  8. Can Rovers overcome Goodwillie drama?published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

John McGlynn broke his silence in midweek to apologise to Rovers fans for the "enormous error" in signing David Goodwillie for an undisclosed sum from League 1 club Clyde.

The Championship outfit sparked an outcry when they signed the striker, who was ruled a rapist and ordered to pay damages in a civil case in 2017.

Rovers have since said the 32-year-old will never play for them and McGlynn admitted the club underestimated the ferocity of fallout from the signing.

In the aftermath, McGlynn's side slipped up at home to Hamilton on Saturday, although the goalless draw means they are level on points with third-top Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

  9. 'Rovers need energy to combat Celtic juggernaut'published at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn tells BBC Sportsound: "At the moment, this is a big challenge for every team. The Premiership sides are struggling to cope with Celtic and the form they are in. They are an absolute juggernaut. With the speed they start games, they are blowing teams away.

"We'll need a lot of energy and we need to keep the ball under pressure. We can't afford any slackness.

"It's a big task, but it's XI v XI. There hasn't been too many shocks and that's what we're are here to do. If they drop their standards a little and we raise ours, all of a sudden you've got a game."

  10. 'Raith will be an arm wrestle'published at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Scotland: "It's the whole point of assembling, hopefully, a strong squad is to give players their chance. I expect our standards to be maintained.

"The key thing is, when you do play, you're ready for it and you take that opportunity.

    "It's a cup competition. It's a one-off game, it's always a challenge, it's always a bit of an arm wrestle.

"The opposition don't have a lot to lose, so maybe they can play with a bit more courage than in the league."

  11. Musonda replaces injured Langpublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Rovers manager John McGlynn makes just one change from the side held to 0-0 draw at home to Hamilton Academical.

Former Luton Town defender Frankie Musonda replaces Tom Lang, who picked up a serious knee surgery in that game and will require surgery, ruling him out until next season.

Hibs left-back Sean Mackie was signed yesterday on loan and the 23-year-old is named among the substitutes.

  13. Seven Celtic changespublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou doesn't make quite as many changes as Rangers counterpart Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who named a completely new team for Saturday's win over Annan Athletic.

However, only four players - goalkeeper Joe Hart, right-back Anthony Ralston, centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers and midfielder Reo Hatate - retain their places following the fine 3-2 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday.

It means captain Callum McGregor and in-form wingers Liel Abada and Jota are among those dropping to the bench.

  14. Welcome back!published at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Celtic v Raith Rovers (16:00)

Odds are heavily in favour of Celtic becoming the seventh Premiership side to reach the Scottish Cup quarter-finals as we tick towards kick-off in the penultimate last-16 tie.

Raith Rovers, from the division below, not only head to Glasgow to face the side currently topping the Scottish league but don't have their troubles to seek, having been embroiled in internal turmoil following the controversial signing of former Scotland striker David Goodwillie.

  18. 'Very good performance' - Maloneypublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    FT: Arbroath 1-3 Hibernian

Hibs manager Shaun Maloney is pleased with his side's "mentality and fight".

"It was a very good performance and, with losing a goal like that, it made it even harder," he tells BBC One Scotland.

"Conditions were difficult to play, but we should have scored more again and, at the start of the second half, we needed our goalkeeper.

"I was disappointed with the goal, but it was only six minutes in and I still had belief that we would create chances and we did. Today we were clinical when we needed it."

  19. Campbell rues missed chances after the intervalpublished at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    FT: Arbroath 1-3 Hibernian

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell tells BBC Scotland: "I've no complaints whatsoever. I'm very proud of the players but I just felt that things didn't fall for us.

"We had two fantastic chances early in the second half and you need everything to go for you on days like this. You can see the depth in quality Hibs have and they are worthy winners."

  20. Nisbet eyes return to Hampdenpublished at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    FT: Arbroath 1-3 Hibernian

"The lads showed good spirit," says the scorer of Hibs' equaliser, Demetri Mitchell. " We believe in the manager and we're trying to play positive football but today was about digging deep."

Kevin Nisbet, who scored a cracking second goal for the visitors, adds: "We're a team that's been going to Hampden a lot recently and we want to get there again."
