Wycombe are in the ascendancy, they have started the second half better than Sunderland.

It's role-reversal from the first half.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Lyndon Gooch beats a man in midfield for Sunderland, and then prods the ball forward tamely into space.

Has this occasion just got to the Black Cats for some reason, on a delayed fuse?

They've looked scratchy since returning to the pitch.

Jason McCarthy gallops down the right for Wycombe, the cross is cleared.

Then Daryl Horgan puts on in which Danny Batth heads out.

    Pressure on now.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Dennis Cirkin has come out not quite with it, lunging into a sloppy pass to plant his boot on Garath McCleary's leg.

    Free-kick Wycombe in dangerous territory.

Joe Jacobson's swirling left-footer is punched away by Anthony Patterson.

Will Alex Neil get Cirkin off? He's made two rash challenges in the opening few minutes. He's got to watch it now.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 47 mins

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Yellow card for a crude block by Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin on Garath McCleary.

Cheap set-piece but the Black Cats clear Wycombe's set-piece convincingly.

Skully: Unfortunately whoever wins this game will just go down next season. Basically pointless then.

Chris: Since the goal Wycombe have matched Sunderland, just need to create a few more chances for Vokes, he will convert!

    Positive thinking there, Skully!

  6. SECOND-HALFpublished at 46 mins

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Sunderland have one foot in the Championship then after the first half.

There were some green shoots of recovery for Wycombe at the back end of the half.

It's Alex Neil's Black Cats who get us up and running for the second-half.

Wycombe's game plan went out of the window with that early goal. They have improved but Sunderland took a step back like they were having a breather.

Wycombe may be hoping that Sunderland live to regret doing that. I felt if they went for the second goal they might well have got it.

Does Alex Neil send his side out looking for a killer second or do they grind it out? Wycombe have no choice - they have to go for it.

Don't forget this is just the first of three play-off finals from the EFL over the next eight days.

Next Saturday, Mansfield Town take on Port Vale in the League Two showpiece.

And, Sunday sees Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest quite literally play off for a place in the Premier League in the Championship showpiece.

Both will be here on BBC Sport.

It was an excellent strike from Elliot Embleton.

Sunderland deserve to be in the lead but the worry is that Wycombe can't be as bad as they have been in that first 45 minutes.

I would imagine Gareth Ainsworth will be expecting a reaction from his players. They need to get closer to Sunderland, who have been controlling the game.

Sunderland need to manage the game - a clean sheet wins them the game.

What a difference a goal makes, as Sunderland's flying start was rewarded with a strike from Elliot Embleton to give them the lead.

They might have had a few more, with Patrick Roberts, Alex Pritchard and Ross Stewart all having chances to stretch David Stockdale in the Wycombe goal.

The Chairboys keeper might not want to watch the replay of the goal, but he and his team-mates grew into this contest and are by no means out of it.

Alex Pritchard curls one into the box outside of his boot for the onrushing Luke O'Nien... but it pings off his toe and behind.

Deserved better that from Sunderland. What a pass.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Jordan Obita finally gets a yard for a cross from the left for Wycombe, but his skiddy low delivery is cleared.

Not sufficiently enough though, and Sunderland give away a free-kick.

It's whizzed in, Garath McCleary is the target from Joe Jacobson's superb curling cross, but it's behind for a goal-kick.

    One added minute.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

There are a few more spaces opening up for Wycombe in attack, not quite the one-way traffic it had been earlier on.

Still, the Black Cats defence remains strong.

Mind you, just as I wrote that, they got in a pickle there, two defenders going for the same ball, then a loose header back to Anthony Patterson, and Sam Vokes is almost in.

Can't give freebies up like that.

Graeme Coleman: Following Sunderland v Wycombe via BBC live text on a flight from Delhi to Heathrow is absolutely tortuous - worse than watching it live.

I assume you mean the tension rather than the quality of coverage, Graeme...

    Gary Bennett
Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Radio Newcastle

Wycombe are trying to press Sunderland further up the field to try to stop them playing out.

Gareth Ainsworth will be telling his players at half-time that they have to get closer to Sunderland.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Luke O'Nien, as Keith Ryan was saying on 3CR, was a popular figure at Wycombe and he shows his value to the Sunderland cause by shepherding out Garath McCleary and playing the ball off him for a goal-kick.

Really calm play amidst the frantic occasion.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Everything that has been flung into Sunderland's box by Wycombe, admittedly more in hope than expectation, has been dealt with coolly by Anthony Patterson.

The South Shields lad has commanded his box well, impressive given Sam Vokes is in presence.

  19. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 37 mins

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Sunderland play the ball into Ross Stewart who runs in behind, and his backheel finds Patrick Roberts, who is clattered by Joe Jacobson.

The Black Cats fans leap up in appeal for a spot-kick, but Stewart had run offside.

    Very close. But no cigar.

  20. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Sunderland come close again with a corner routine.

Alex Pritchard's deep back-post outswinger is nodded square by Ross Stewart, but Bailey Wright goes for goal instead of taking a touch and it's over.
