Ross Stewart showed his perseverance and persistence in the semi-final win over Sheffield Wednesday for Sunderland, and he almost pinches namesake Anthony's pocket.

Wycombe attack at the other end. It's a tester for Anthony Patterson, who has emerged as the Black Cats number one.

The Sunderland centre-halves are no-nonsense but if the delivery is good Sam Vokes will get chances.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Wycombe try to move the ball about from side to side, hoping to pick a gap or draw out a defender, but Alex Neil has set this Sunderland side up in disciplined fashion.

They are stalking down field though the Chairboys.

Jason McCarthy pumps in a fierce cross and Sam Vokes powers a header at goal - mismatching Lynden Gooch - but can't direct it as it spoons off his head and away to safety.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Sunderland striker Ross Stewart forces David Stockdale into a sprawling save, beating away after a curling right footer into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Patrick Roberts' dink goes behind to give Wycombe a goal kick.

They haven't managed to break Sunderland's rhythm yet. Plenty of time to go of course, but the fans from the north east might just be thinking the pond is a little too still right now.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Jordan Obita takes on Lynden Gooch and breezes by, as Wycombe get a bit of joy down the left.

However, Corry Evans is back to sweep up the danger and clears.

His industry goes unnoticed quite a bit, with the more glamorous figures. But he's key.

Wayne Ellis: Wycombe might want to get started before this game is out of reach. Barely had a kick so far.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Alex Pritchard snaps a shot from the edge of the Wycombe box, but this time David Stockdale dives on it and makes a telling save.

It was nice build up by Corry Evans and Ross Stewart to draw Patrick Roberts and Pritchard into the game.

That's the difference. The Black Cats' ball-players have had plenty of possession so far.

Josh Scowen and Dominic Gape have been overwhelmed in midfield.

The adrenaline is pumping for Sunderland. They have got their goal and they have come down a bit.

That's good for Wycombe as it's allowed them to get a foothold. They are in the game now but they need one or two better opportunites.

    Sunderland 1-0 Wycombe

Wycombe break through Joe Jacobson, who picks out Garath McCleary on the right.

He scoops into the box, but Sam Vokes - the towering target-man - is offside and his looping header wide is to no avail.

Dream start for the Sunderland fans - they've been making so much noise since well before kick-off and the stadium erupted as Elliot Embleton gave them the lead.

There's a long way to go in this one but the Sunderland fans are enjoying what they're seeing, while it's all a bit subdued in the Wycombe end - they need something to lift them.

The Black Cats are dominant. Alex Pritchard's stepover and change of pace sees him ghost away from Joe Jacobson, and only a desperate lunge from the Wycombe defence clears his delivery with Ross Stewart lurking.

Wycombe build at the other end, as Sunderland funnel back to close down the space.

Jason McCarthy gets in down the right and fizzes a fierce delivery across goal but Anthony Patterson's goalie gloves cushion it neatly.

That forces Wycombe to come out and play now surely.

Sunderland had been driving the pace and now have a goal to show for it.

Barely a soul in red and white is in their seats. I pity the stewards who try to get them to sit down.

Take a bow Elliot Embleton and Alex Neil for that team selection. What a goal that was.

Embleton had a long way to go but he took on one, took on two and what a finish that was. It flew past the keeper.

That's why he got the nod!

Sunderland take the lead at Wembley as 46,000 fans rise to their feet in a cacophony of noise, and it's Elliot Embleton who thrashes them in front.

He powers forward, driving at the Wycombe defence, and with Ryan Tafazoli backing off, he thunders the ball at goal but it seems to go straight through goalkeeper David Stockdale.

Seemed to be spooked by it. The Black Cats don't care.

These are testing times for Wanderers. There is a lot of room out there and Wycombe need to close those gaps.

    Sunderland 0-0 Wycombe

Sunderland are stretching the play nicely to keep Wycombe's defence honest.

Having worked the ball from right to left, Dennis Cirkin fizzes in a cross-shot which causes David Stockdale some issues, and he beats it away for a corner.

Keyboard is metaphorically smoking here as the action swings end to end.

Patrick Roberts plays Alex Pritchard into space and he sweeps in a superb cross which earns a throw.

Wycombe clear again through Anthony Stewart, and a third delivery swings behind to safety from Sunderland.
