  1. 'Time's running out'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Mansfield 0-2 Port Vale

    Jon D'Laryea
Former Mansfield Town midfielder on BBC Radio Nottingham

It does look like Jordan Bowery and Jamie Murphy are holding wide positions which will help Mansfield defensively but we're 2-0 down so we need something more attacking.

If we get our foot on the ball and get some composure we can get back into it but time’s running out.

    Mansfield 0-2 Port Vale

Oli Hawkins is booked and it's clear why - he's got his hand in Nathan Smith's face and pushes him to the ground of the ball.

Signs of frustration creeping in for Mansfield, it's Hawkins' 15th yellow card of the season.

His team have had seven reds this season.

  3. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Mansfield 0-2 Port Vale

This game has sprung into action - Kian Harratt's goal came just a minute after he hit the post with a well-struck effort from outside the box, with Nathan Bishop well beaten.

They're in again Port Vale but James Wilson is offside - a third in this half would be a disaster for Mansfield.

  4. 'Vale running riot'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Phil Sproson
Former Port Vale captain on BBC Radio Stoke

Port Vale have got them on the rack.

    Vale are just running riot.

Wilson is a poacher, he’s not marked and bang it’s 2-0.

I didn't think the Port Vale fans to my right would get any louder after that opener. James Wilson has just proved me wrong.

The Valiant fans are absolutely bouncing right now.

Wow! Mansfield have been totally rocked.

Port Vale are in full flow and David Worrall hangs up a delicious cross at the far post which Ben Garrity attacks.

His looped header hits the bar and James Wilson is alive to it to score his 15th of the season.

Mansfield need to settle down and quickly. It has been all Vale since the first goal.

  7. 'Superb finish'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

They totally deserve it. Big credit to him (Kian Harrett).

It’s a superb finish from the youngster. He makes no mistake.

It was a fantastic ball by James Wilson.

    Big, big goal!

James Wilson plays a lovely ball out to Mal Benning on the left-hand side, who plays the cross into the box and Kian Harratt has a lot to do.

The striker stoops to head the ball past Nathan Bishop in the Mansfield goal.

Just moments before Harratt struck the inside of the post from the edge of the box!

Both teams are really going for this early on, playing the ball from back to front quickly and directly.

There have been some dangerous balls over the top but just lacking that final bit of quality to create chances.

Mansfield punt a long ball forward and the header back towards Aidan Stone is short so he has to race out of his area to beat the onrushing Rhys Oates to the ball and head clear.

    Mansfield 0-0 Port Vale

Seeing that chance again and it's bizarre how the chance comes about as there's no Mansfield player in sight but Jamie Murphy is alive to it and gets in very quickly.

Either side of the goalkeeper with the header and the score is 1-0 Mansfield.

But Vale have the ball again and will be very relieved we're still goalless.

  12. Touching tribute to Clarkepublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    This is a touching moment.

Stags supporters are first to rise out of their seats to clap in solidarity with Mansfield-born Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke, who suffered a close family bereavement recently.

Port Vale fans join in the emotional show of support for their boss. Clarke shows his appreciation with applause directed back at the fans.

It's good anticipation but he has to score.

He’s only six or eight yards out.

Yes it’s on his head but he has to put it away.

Almost an absolute shocker from Port Vale.

A harmless ball comes across the area and James Gibbons looks like he's going to deal with it but just lets the ball go through.

Jamie Murphy runs through and Aidan Stone has to make a smart save to keep out the header. Where was the communication in the Vale backline there?

Mansfield win a free-kick after David Worrall's challenge on Stephen Quinn.

The ball goes behind for a corner and the second ball in from Quinn causes the Vale defence all kinds of problems but goes behind for a second corner, which comes to nothing.

  16. 'Great atmosphere'published at 16:06 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Mansfield 0-0 Port Vale

    Jon D'Laryea
Former Mansfield Town midfielder on BBC Radio Nottingham

Both sets of fans are really giving it a go.

It might be a contest as to who can be the loudest in the stands, as well as the contest on the pitch.

It makes for a great atmosphere.

    Mansfield 0-0 Port Vale

Port Vale win an early throw and play the ball across the back as they take the early possession. The ball finds its way back to goalkeeper Aidan Stone a couple of times - on both occasions he goes long but fails to find a Vale head.

  18. 'There's going to be a hero somewhere'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Mansfield 0-0 Port Vale

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

I think it’s going to be really tight game. There’s going to be a hero somewhere.

When we’ve questioned them on big occasions before, the players have handled it and they found a way at Swindon.

I think they will win 1-0.

There are some truly incredible stories out there for both teams today.

Port Vale boss Darrell Clarke has dealt with a close family bereavement in recent months and leads his side onto the most famous of football pitches. It’s undoubtedly a moving moment for the 44-year-old.

Then you have Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough, son of the late, great Brian Clough, who is out there looking to emulate his father by enjoying success at the home of English football.

And, of course, there is James Perch. He again takes the captain’s armband for the Stags and leads them on to the Wembley pitch just nine months after he contemplated retirement after fracturing his skull.

This has emotion-charged game written all over it.
