Nottm Forest are promoted to the Premier League

The biggest roar of the day is for Steve Cooper as he hoists the silver pot into the air for Nottingham Forest.

Not since Brian Clough has a manager come in and whipped the red and white masses into such a frenzy.

Frank Clark did a cracking job in 1994, but he didn't pick a team off the canvas like Cooper did.

It was rock bottom and getting worse when he arrived. Now, less than a year after taking over, he's a Premier League manager.

Nottingham Forest will be back in the Premier League.

The City Ground will take in Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal et al.

No doubt, a memory to foster over the summer, ready to go again in July.

Credit to them, sportsmanship in full effect.

This final certainly wasn't without controversy.

Huddersfield's Harry Toffolo and Lewis O'Brien were denied strong penalty claims in the second half...

Ross Matthewman: First one was a clear dive, second one is definitely a penalty.

Rich in Salou: Disgraceful decisions to award nothing for either penalty incident. What is the point of VAR but to overturn these incorrect decisions?

Jamie Brilley: The FA can be happy knowing they gave Jon Moss his day and made it all about him. He's made two glaring errors penalty wise. Madness giving him this game when he's retiring and his poor record this season

  8. Terriers to turn attentions to next seasonpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 29 May 2022

Huddersfield's players are stood together in their half, facing the celebrating Forest players and fans.

They gave it everything in the second half but just could not find that big chance.

They will look back and think what if on the controversial decision to book Harry Toffolo for going down in the area under Jack Colback's challenge.

Carlos Corberan will hope to keep this group together and go again next season.

Huddersfield's players stand waiting for the stage to be erected and their part of the presentation to finish.

    Must be utterly painful.

Some of their fans have stayed and are joining in the celebrations, which currently are being soundtracked by Depeche Mode.

Cynics might say that the last time Forest were any good was when 'Just can get enough' was out.

Forty-odd thousand red and whites aren't going anywhere though.

Forest captain Joe Worrall speaking to Sky Sports:

"I'm just so proud of the players, staff, fans.

"We've been fantastic all season - we were really unlucky to not go up automatically.

"We've played with honesty and we play football the right way."

Yazz's 'Only way is up' blares out of the PA system at Wembley.

    How fitting.

Forest haven't been here since 1992. They've not won here since beating Southampton in the ZDS Cup.

All that heartache will seep away.

Down to League One, misery. Relegations. Play-off failure.

    Buried on one glorious afternoon.

Those players will feel cheated when they see the penalty decision. To not use VAR when we have it is ridiculous.

    Steve Cooper has done it.

The Welshman has succeeded where so many before him had failed and taken Forest back to the Premier League.

It wasn't their best performance today and you have to feel for Huddersfield, who had much the better of it after the break.

It was not to be for them though and it will be Nottingham Forest who start next season a Premier League team.

Brice Samba can barely walk but he was still able to dance his way over to the Forest fans behind the goal.

Steve Cooper is mobbed by his players and staff. His eyes moist with the emotion of success. Legends in the stands like Frank Clark and Des Walker look on. Clark took Forest up in 1994. Cooper has followed suit.

What a moment for the men from Nottingham.

It's one big red and white jamboree.
